    You'll do fine.
Look after your capital. Big losses come from letting small losses grow.
Keep in mind that stocks gap both ways. Over time it averages out.

Why not just make your username Freddie94 or something??

Good luck in your swing trading.

  3. Lol I usually use a random password generator when I have to reset my passwords and memorize new ones whenever I have to reset my password :sneaky:. Why? Who knows it just became a habit for some reason.

Trading is a long, long, loooooong road, but you're young, so there's hope. :)

In my very early days of trading I was using a charting program called Esycharts.
It was a very basic program loaded with the usual canned run of the mill bullshit indicators.

I was chatting on an Australian trading forum and this guy suggested to me to buy Amibroker, which I did.
Anyhow this bloke was a Amibroker guru in the day and lived only an 1 hours drive away, so we struck up a friendship.
Long story short, I learnt how to write Amibroker code.

I did this for quite a number of years, while employed as a wage slave.

Then one day I decided to experiment with googlefinance data and bought an entry level chromebook to experiment on.

Long story short, I dumped Amibroker and now code on several chromebooks I own.

But the crux of what I wish to convey is this; Primarily looking at charts for trading ideas is dumb.
There are a large number of things to consider, both fundamentally and technically when buying and selling.
Unless you're a genius, it's impossible to retain all this info in your brain and remember/recall this stuff when required.

Learn how to write code in your trading career if possible.
Coding is like a calculator, it stores info then spits out an answer.

There is one problem though, coding and trading are two different beasts, it is difficult to be a coder and trading at the same time.
Coding will distract you from trading initially.
It is a long road with many obstacles, being focused, not distracted is very tough.

  6. Don't worry I have coding experience and I am pursuing a career heavy in statistics as well. I will do my best to take all the money the market has to offer :sneaky:.

Couldn't resist, looks like I may be a gambler :sneaky:. Been working a lot on code, it's been going well and am still building the foundation. API calls are easy with the service I bought :D.

  9. I know this isn’t specifically about trading, but trading is a significant part of my life and therefore influences many of the ideas I think about. This topic is more about life and how to pursue the goals you want to achieve. I’ve been reflecting on these thoughts for quite some time now—perhaps a couple of years. I also recognize that I’m still very young. I just need a place to express these thoughts.

In both life and trading, I believe planning is essential. However, I don’t currently have a solid plan for trading—just some general ideologies and statistics that guide my decisions. I suppose it’s more of a confluence of multiple ideas and stats. What I’ve noticed in my life is that when I fail to plan, everything around me begins to crumble, and I start pursuing things I don’t truly want, like watching YouTube or engaging in other distractions. For example, if I don’t meal prep, I end up wasting time cooking or going out to buy food. While these activities aren’t inherently good or bad, the real challenge lies in constantly having to make decisions.

I find that I dislike overthinking. Some days, I just want to play a game without actively competing or strategizing. Perhaps this is part of human nature. Currently, I’m in a significant downswing from my usual “disciplined” self. I know this phase will pass, as I’m already starting to pick up the pieces again. However, I’ve observed that it’s incredibly challenging for us as humans to stay consistently on the same path; we always seem to find ways to disrupt it.

Reflecting on this, I realize that my routines aren’t very robust—they tend to fall apart when disrupted by unexpected events. To address this, I need to focus on creating routines and plans that are more resilient and can withstand unforeseen challenges. It seems my approach to planning for life is more developed than my approach to trading. Perhaps I can use my life planning as a model to improve my trading. It’s truly remarkable what the mind can conceive when you take the time to think about it.

Anyway, I think I’ve identified what I need to work on which is improving my planning/routines to make them more robust. Hopefully this will translate into my trading.

  10. Okay, I am pretty much done with my code base(at least the very basics). I am planning to focus on stocks around 0.8billion to 10billion in market cap. Feels good to have most of the things filtered :) it is much easier than filtering manually. From the 10.9k symbols, I reduced it by half by cutting out non stocks, which I further reduced via market cap to around 1.6k or something around that. Which was then further reduced via technicals to around 350. So I will be focusing on these stocks, I also want to look at fundamental data. I have pulled all that data as well. Also upgraded the requests speed by multithreading recently. My code is all over the place but I plan to build certain functions and start standardizing functions I use quite often. So that the research side is easier :strong:.
