Sweden's Lockdown Lite (that's what they call it) Yet, if they can solve the major problem in their nursing homes and within the communities of the ethnic minorities...that will catch the attention of the World in a positive way. Lockdown Lite It would seem that countries like France, Canada and the U.S.A that did a full lockdown including closing their borders...they did such because they couldn't trust its citizens to do the right thing. Simply, the U.S.A had it right...they needed to do a lockdown because its citizens are less trustworthy. I know, its a strange way to look at it. wrbtrader
It is funny to see right wing republicans do these data acrobatics to justify the failed public health policy of a country with universal healthcare. Somebody should tell them that they are in effect supporting medicare-for-all.
Norway and Finland together has more than Sweden's population. Similar culture, geography, food habits etc. # of deaths due to COVID Sweden - 5370 Norway + Finland - 621 "Swedish Policy Factor" = 8.65 time more people died because of Sweden's policy No evidence of Sweden outperforming economically than Norway or Finland. Sweden has not made much progress in the so called "herd immunity" stupidity either. Wingnuts in US now support a socialist country with universal healthcare as the model they want to follow in public health policy. Their leader apparently doesn't know whether Finland is part of Russia (Finnish prime minister responded that they were not sure whether US was owned by Putin either). So these kinds of analyses may be moot. Finland and Norway are reopening but shutting out Sweden!!! Europe is reopening, most likely with restrictions of entry to Americans. Elections have consequences. Vote. #KidsInCages; #grandmaUnderground; #Trump2020
Yeah, I was a little surprise to see Buy1Sell2 pull that stunt via using a graph of Sweden for the purpose of comparing it to Sweden (itself) and then stating its a roll model for the rest of the world without showing what the rest of the world is doing in comparison. A little shocking that he would think someone would not fact check that via actually comparing Sweden's statistics to the statistics for the rest of the world especially in comparison to its neighbouring countries Denmark / Norway / Finland. Then again, one should compare Sweden to other countries that also did not lockdown: South Korea, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan that prefer to use other tactics when one person tested positive for Covid-19...three countries that then zero on each patient prior contacts if the person had died from Covid-19 (e.g. contact tracing). Yet, we're just barely beyond 1/2 (6 months) the year. To achieve herd immunity...you need usually a minimum of 2 years plus a vaccine. That's another 1 1/2 years and Sweden already has +5,000 deaths. On the flip side, Pandemics do in fact change very fast. They either become much worst or much better by the year end. The end of this year will give better clues in comparison to today about the future. I don't know what is Sweden's uncle point / tap out but I'm sure their government officials do have a uncle point / tap out if needed to prevent a disaster. I really hope such doesn't happen but they should have waited for a vaccine that's required to achieve herd immunity. Note: Rumour that China has now developed a vaccine. Seriously, we don't want to get to the point of denial and believing its no big deal...quarantine not needed (sarcasm). wrbtrader
Lets put it this way, when I decide to fly to France...I'll be using either my French or Canadian passport and not my U.S. passport. I do not want to get held up in customs...I just want to get thru customs as fast as possible without any delays. wrbtrader
Check https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/sweden/ Check out current death rate , it's now tiny , and like I said before death rate overall has been less than UK , and falling fast , like I've said before , this isn't over and every day seems to slowly validate Swedens approach. As for the economy - " NBC reports that Sweden, which avoided a hardline lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, saw its economy grow in the first quarter. The Swedish economy expanded at a far superior rate than many of its European counterparts over the first three months of the year, data published Friday showed, following the government’s decision not to impose a full lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus. https://fee.org/articles/sweden-sees-economic-growth-in-1st-quarter-despite-global-pandemic/
The role model would be either Denmark / Norway / Finland / Iceland when comparing all of those neighbouring countries to each other considering their death rate is much lessor than Sweden...don't you think ? By the way, I'm a stats guy...I just follow the statistics (facts) instead of my bias opinions. As for Sweden's economy...strong economies going into a Pandemic usually bounce back or have small growth during a Pandemic for the year 2020 (so far). We still have two more quarters to go by year end. It will be interesting to see the stats at the end of the year considering the neighbouring countries have recently shut their borders to Sweden and there's already showing signs of shrinkage in Sweden's GDP growth. The below graph is up to 2018. I could not pull up the 2019 and year of 2020 so far...some sort'uv glitch when I logged into my resource website for the GDP statistics. I should have made the below graph yesterday when the site was working properly...it showed Sweden GDP growth much better than the shown countries that I compared them with but only a small growth in comparison to the prior quarters that had a much larger growth. An alternative site that I use...added recently but I'm still a little unfamiliar how to put up my country comparisons on a chart. Thus, I'll just compare Sweden to itself without the other countries via comparing its current quarter to recent past quarters to show the shrinkage in the economy. As you can see...Sweden's economy is shrinking but I don't think its because of Covid-19...I could be wrong. The shrinkage has their government worried especially now that its a Pandemic. Another resource (free) and rarely used. Yet, still very interesting because it compares the economy forecast before Covid-19 versus the revision after Covid-19...its economy is still shrinking even in the forecasts but it doesn't imply that such will happen. Death Rate Comparison (below graphs) considering its obvious some folks here at Elitetrader.com are letting their bias influence them instead of following the statistical facts. Following the stats is a key approach to trading considering this is still a trading forum. Death rate is now tiny...every day seems to slowly validate Swedens approach (your words)...you sure about that ? April 29th - Sweden / Denmark / Norway / Finland July 3rd - Sweden / U.S.A. / Brazil / Denmark / Norway / Finland I added the data of U.S.A. and Brazil considering they have the worst management and leadership involving Covid-19 and obviously paying the price via the lives of their citizens for such bad management. The shocking aspect...Sweden's death rate is much much much greater than U.S.A. / Brazil / Denmark / Norway / Finland How's that possible ? wrbtrader
12 today wasn't it, it's over, they didn't do loads of damage, job, mental health of kids and they can go back to normal life which they didn't really stop, defo a win for Sweden!! Norway, they'll get hit again sooner or later, then more lockdowns, more damage, maybe they won't catch in time next time and they'll all get it but still lockdown. Florida Wave 1.2 and doing a Sweden, first lockdown kinda pointless wasn't it, forecast less deaths than NYC with lockdowns, that'll get a lot of questions asked all over the world, when they realise lockdowns pointless Having the only functioning country will be great when the world reopens and everyone else has wrecked themselves, the UK was trying to do that, but no we screwed ourselves
Economies were doing GREAT prior to the Pandemic...the strongest economies will easily bounce back after the Pandemic while the weaker economies will be slow to recover (as expected). I won't bother to post any more statistical charts about the history of economies in Pandemics but I think the message is very clear. Sweden did not lockdown and their economy is shrinking and their people are dying but overall in Sweden...folks are happy that they did not lockdown and I give them a passing grade for continuing to keep a smile on their face while so many of their people are dying. I think @KCalhoun (Ken Calhoun) would appreciate this guy and his saxophone. In comparison, the U.S.A..very pathetic. Now imagine what the U.S.A. would be like if they had not lockdown !!! Scary wrbtrader
