I don't think there will be a vaccine within the next year but there may be an approved treatment to keep people from dying...a treatment easily available. Sadly, those sitting on the board of these companies have been taking advantage of the stock price via making "positive progress" announcements to run up their stock price just so that they can cash out...rich. It's just as equal in bad taste as those buying (hoarding) all the sanitize wipes, hand sanitizers, toilet paper, bleach, medical masks and such at the start of the Pandemic. Rich gets richer and poor gets poorer wrbtrader
Norway and Finland together has more than Sweden's population. Similar culture, geography, food habits etc. # of deaths due to COVID Sweden - 4295 Norway + Finland - 556 "Swedish Policy Factor" = 7.72 No evidence of Sweden outperforming economically than Norway or Finland. Sweden has not made much progress in the so called "herd immunity" stupidity either. Only positive I can think of is that Sweden has tricked the wingnuts in US to support a socialist country with universal healthcare as the model they want to follow in public health policy.
blah-blah we already heard that. Couple of things about the Swedish experience: 1. We should thank them because we need a control group. If every country acts the same, we wouldn't know the difference. 2. Most of the Swedish dead are 3 years over their average life expectancy. (what is fucking old already, at 83) Let that think in... 3. Even if their economy is screwed (thanks to their counter parties) at least the people didn't go crazy because they could get a haircut and a steak. 4. No #4 needed...
That' s true, data from Italy suggesting the virus is getting way less harmful also would help justify past lockdowns if similar findings spread to other countries, I hope Spain gets a similar evolution as I m not ready to face another strict lockdown. What kind of society has neighbours call cops on people strolling or sitting on a bench alone outside while shouting "Murderer" at them. Cops had a party, even in the early deescalation phases many people where I live have been fined 600Euros because they crossed on bike the unclear limit between 2 municipalities or were found out of their house a bit outside the allowed hours. On the bright side near our house, once the kids were allowed out the park got very busy in an ambiance of Laissez Faire, much busier than before lockdown as kids have few other options at the moment
Good news if someone lives in Italy although the "data" if from just one doctor after doing swabs the past 10 days but it doesn't name how many people were swab. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...potency-top-italian-doctor-says-idUSKBN2370OQ Yet, I would prefer to hear it from a research medical facility that has tested more than one hospital and from a larger sample size of tests. Regardless, hand washing / social distancing / lockdowns do in fact work so that people, if they are exposed...they are exposed to a low concentration of the infection and not a high concentration of exposure. The impact on one's immune system is LESS and that allows the immune system to do its job...defend. wrbtrader
Actually data from Italy came out already about 10 days ago suggesting the same, from memory doctors from several italian hospitals gave a similar feedback. Dunno how scientific that is but you csn look up older links on the issue. I probably read this in spanish. Besides I ve been thinking about u going out with a mask during years in Asia and getting very sick once u moved back to the West and removed the mask.( i might be wrong on the details, that s from memory from an older post) Wondering how bad it is for ur immune system to always go out with a mask. And lockdowns do seem to work to some extent, the same way keeping animals in a zoo and castrating them do. Prolockdown folks are basically begging governments to treat them as pets, which would be fine if they didn t press for their neighbours to be caged along.
Some people like these folks to die a dignified death, even though they committed the crime of being old. For right-wingers who found no issue with #KidsinCages, #grandmaUnderground will be "blah -blah" This is the next stupid argument after herd immunity. Unfortunately, just like herd immunity, data does not support. There are 4X as many deaths in people agreed UNDER 80 in Sweden because of this stupidity. (Now, in Trump States here data is being made to support this craziness by manipulation, Sweden didn't do that)
Yeah, when I was station in Seoul, Korea in a special unit and we only wore mask on some days....I was never sick. Also, when off base and then living there after I left the military...I always wore a mask but mainly because my girlfriend always wore a mask. Never sick. Upon arrival back in France and the U.S...I begin to have annual flare ups of a weaken immune system that would last about a month in the fall which I would catch a cold, flu or strep throat. I then saw a specialist around age 30...she stated the problem was my tonsils. Got a 2nd opinion...same diagnosis in which they recommended I have my tonsils remove. I then had my tonsils removed and didn't have anymore immune system problems. Moved my family to Québec, Canada. No problems until many years later when ex military friends from U.S. and South Korea visited me at my other home in South France (we get together every year for some hard-core back woods camping/hiking). We went Pheasant Hunting. They wore masks and I did not. They then left and I went back to trading for a few days and cleaning up the property before travelling back to Québec, Canada. Wasn't feeling too good after that. Decided to go to the hospital for a checkup...while checking in and giving the check-in clerk my health card... I collapsed in the hospital lobby from sudden drop in my blood pressure. Woke up about 2 months later from a coma / life support. They said I tested positive for the Pneumonia but it was a strain they never saw before and wanted to know where I had been travelling. Although it was very confusing for me mainly do to the fact that many family members and close friends surrounding me were speaking different languages... My first thought was that I had been in a car accident considering I couldn't move my legs (too weak) and then I thought I had been poisoned. The hospital was very concerned about my travelling and my family had to give them a detail itinerary of my recent travels and whom had been with me. My friends on vacation had been contacted...they were in perfect health...no illness nor anyone in their family household. How I got the Pneumonia remains a mystery to the doctors, health officials and myself considering no friends, no family members from everyone in contact with me had not become ill. I then just became another pneumonia statistic. After that experience, I've gone back to wearing medical masks whenever in public in large gatherings, hospital medical appointments and travelling thru airports when travelling back n forth between my homes. Now we're in a Pandemic...it doesn't seem like a big deal for me but everyone around me now have a deeper understanding about what I experienced in the hospitals back in the fall of 2016 (pneumonia, coma, life support, C. Difficile, quarantine, rehab). Seriously, my family and close friends have vivid memory of me on life support back in the the fall of 2016. They went into their own family lockdown 2 weeks before the U.S., France and Canada went into a lockdown...we had just came back from a small family reunion / vacation in South Dakota and Chicago. The funny thing is this...I tease my two buddies from South Korea that the Pandemic was their fault because I do wonder sometimes if wearing masks in Asia...doesn't allow one's immune system to defend itself because the system doesn't develop natural anti-bodies. Teasing them that they're the weak links in our military group of ex soldiers / best friends. There's been research about such in Asia and the research shows no evidence that mask wearing has long term nor short term negative effects such as a weaken immune system. We're all now (military pals from U.S. and South Korea) planning another big winter vacation for some extreme winter camping/hiking and hunting (U.S. Olympic Peninsula)...just to flex our survival skills. Pandemics have more impact beyond the health system...it exposes other weaknesses in society. You then need to getaway from society to reset the mind, body and soul. wrbtrader
1. Completely different issue, but thanks for the strawman. I am also not a right winger. 2. The Swedish didn't choose their path for herd immunity. Nice attack on a never made argument. 2. And they are also mostly old. Old people die because their immune system is weakened. Old people deserve the same protection as others, but their deaths is WAY less tragic than children's. The Swedish acknowledged they didn't protect them sufficiently, neither did other countries with lock downs. 4-5 US states' numbers are similar to Sweden's and they did lock down. Care to try again?
Even if you exclude 80+ year olds (who also matter, in my view), Sweden had 4X fatalities as Norway + Finland. That is data. May not fit what you want to see, but data has that habit.
