Yea cause last time I read the Declaration of Independence it said that all Men are created equal with certain unalienable rights, among these life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and trouble free rebates from the government. Like I said before, dealers arenât going to do something where there might be a chance that they could lose that much money. I donât know why the customer would need to wait. The dealer just sells them the car and takes the clunker and applies for the rebate. People will complain about anything.
Read the story a previous poster relayed here, the dealers have to take possession of the clunker and destroy the engine before they can even apply for the credit. Worse, some of these people, who haven't taken possession of their new car and have already given their clunker over to the dealer, who subsequently disabled the vehicle, are going to end up with $1k less due to changes in the rebate program. My guess is that before this is all over it turns into yet another government sponsored clusterfuck and there will be plenty of bagholders, dealers and buyers alike at the end.
The dealers have to take possession before they apply for the rebate? Like, no shit Sherlock. What, you think the gov would let them apply for it based on somebody saying theyâre going to bring it in later? This is no different than the dealer taking possession and giving a trade in value for a used car. And are you really complaining because somebody may have had to special order a car and wait a few weeks to get it after trading in their clunker? These excuses are getting lousier by the day. Here is the quote right from the official website. It seems pretty easy to figure out the exact rebate amount. The value of the credit for the purchase or lease of a new passenger car depends upon the difference between the combined fuel economy of the vehicle that is traded in and that of the new vehicle that is purchased or leased. If the new vehicle has a combined fuel economy that is at least 4, but less than 10, miles per gallon higher than the traded-in vehicle, the credit is $3,500. If the new vehicle has a combined fuel economy value that is at least 10 miles per gallon higher than the traded-in vehicle, the credit is $4,500. My guess is that when all this is said and done, these threads will mysteriously die because you peopleâs lousy excuses proved to be wrong and this program actually turned out to be a completely successful government stimulus program that actually helped out the average Joe.
Look, Sparky, it's not just possession, it's destruction of the engine before they can apply for the rebate. And, all that occurred before they went are revised down the credit amount on a hell of a long list of vehicles. The fact that Charlie the Slimeball Schumer is carping about this isn't turning out the way they intended it is all you need to know about how badly this is going to end.
What I find dishonest and shady was the over the weekend change of official MPG numbers by the gov. agency to make some cars MPG go from 18 to 19. That was uncalled for and stupid.
Considering how little regard they have for contract law, like employment contracts, or bankruptcy law and a host of other things they've already trampled on since Obama danced into office I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they retroactively void any deal to purchase a non-American car under this program.
Elitetraitor is a rolling comedy show. So you're worried about business contracts with businesses being PROPPED UP WITH TAXPAYER FUNDS? Let me get this correct: You are worried about govt. mandated employment contracts limiting outrageous bonuses FOR CORPORATIONS EFFECTIVELY BANKRUPT AND ON PUBLICLY FUNDED LIFE SUPPORT where were you when Bush was pissing on the constitution? All I gotta say is, with so many right wingers gone crazy mad, Obama MUST be doing something right.
I agree. The majority of the clunkers are OLD unsafe POS without airbags and lousy gas mileage <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7IpAQe2Vr_g&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7IpAQe2Vr_g&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Yea wow they have to take possession AND destroy it. Whew! Complicated. Whatâs that take, an extra 10 minutes? Boy if we canât figure out how to do this complicated program, I wonder how weâre ever going to solve world hunger. Chuckie Schumer just wants his face on TV.
