The shark thought he was a seal or other appropriate prey because of the wetsuit, gave him a little nibble, realized he was no seal and not good for eating and let him go. Actually that's pretty typical behaviour for sharks around surfers. Of course, to him that little nibble meant a pretty serious injury...
