Surf Casting-- Montauk??

Discussion in 'Hook Up' started by marketsurfer, Apr 17, 2009.

  1. Anyone here have experience surf fishing in montauk, NY ? Is it too early to go now--mid april?? any suggestions?

  2. Check the water temperature. Find a site there that gives it or call several tackle shops and ask what is biting ( they lie so call several).

I lived on the outer banks for 17 years and that is how I did it.

Water temperature is you best bet though.
US Fish and Wildlife might help you as well or the local news paper.

I've been surf fishing Montauk for the better part of 20 years, and I can assure you that it is too early and cold this early in the season for an all out striper blitz. You could however be surprised with an early invasion of bluefish. Montauk is a beautiful place and there's virtually no traffic this time of year. Go and enjoy.
