You do know the ruling doesn’t address the baker’s refusal to serve gay people, right?

It was a very narrow ruling that found the Colorado civil rights commission treated the baker “harshly.”

I find it hard to believe any Supreme Court will allow for the denial of service of anyone in a business that is open to the public.

Just waiting for a follow-up ruling when a Muslim bakery refuses to create a wedding cake for a gay marriage.

If you think it is OK for the govt to compel a baker or an artist to create a work the way the govt seems fit... you have no right to call yourself a liberal.

you are a fascist or at least pro totalitarian.

Would you compel a atheist baker/owner to write pro God messages if he or she felt it was against their lack of beliefs?

Would you compel a gay baker to write.. congratulations on your conversion away from gayness and back to salvation?

Would you compel a muslim or jew to serve pork in the restaurant they own?

Would compel a jew or a muslim or a protestant to write congrats on your confirmation to the one true church.

Would you compel as satan worshiping baker to write Satan worshipers are condemned to hell repent?

Would you compel a pacifist baker to write Congratulations on you 100th sniper kill? You are a great American?

When you cheer for the govt to take sides you cheer for you own demise.

    When does it stop?
Would you tell a person they have to pull the switch for the electric chair even if they were against killing people?
Do Vegetarians restaurants have to serve meat to people who don't eat vegetables or fruit?
    Does

  5. I wouldn't expect a Muslim bakery to object to making that cake, it's the right wing Christians who are the intolerants.

I think the ruling is fair. Civil Rights organizations need to be neutral in these matters
So the argument about forcing Muslims serving halal food or Jews serving kosher food to serve pork is just stupid. If their product is halal or kosher then it would be against their business to serve pork. Now if a Muslim refuses to serve a Jew, or Vice versa then it would be against the law.

This is the same for trying to compel vegetarian restaurants to serve meat.

Now if you work in any establishment open to the public and they request something within your capabilities that you do regularly, that is usual, customary and reasonable then you have no right to deny them based on your beliefs.

you are on the slippery slope and you may or may not realize it.
Who gets to determine whether an act is within a private businesses' scope of offerings or not? What if the baker provides the cake, the icing and the pastry bag for writing the letters? you still wish to force that person against their will. Do you see how fascist that is?

Would you compel a muslim painter to paint negative images of mohammed or positive images of Isreal?

There are really multiple issues here...

    1. Slavery... or forcing people do do things which are against their will.
This is one of the core issues with compelling players to stand for the national anthem.
    Can the govt do it?
Can an private business force an employee to do it?

    2. Freedom of speech to express oneself or not express oneself as they see fit.
subset... compelling artists to do or not create anything

    3. Freedom of Religion

    and more...

The govt should not be in the content business..that is freedom.
Forcing people to think like you do is the opposite of true liberalism.

this is about whether a democracy or a republic or in general even a theocracy should force its ideas on others against their will.

luckily in the US we have a constitution. What do you have in your country which protects peoples rights from oppression?

By the way an example of intolerance is making people convert to your religion or pay a tax or not allowing a baker to choose to not write something he does not wish to write.

Intolerance is not refusing to create something which violates your own beliefs.
As the supreme court just told the the Colorado lefties on that commission wer were the unconstitutionally intolerant ones.
