  5. Apparently really intelligent people see the benefit of having their ideas and opinions challenged by other really intelligent people with opposing views. Perhaps that's the only way any real progress is ever made. Fat chance of that happening with our 21st century Twitter mob mentality which now permeates every aspect of the political spectrum. Ask a question, you're the enemy. Different opinion? Off with your head. Just goose step towards the cliff while ignoring the guy shouting, HEY, there's a cliff up ahead. Don't listen to that crazy bastard, he votes for the "other guy".

  6. Obama has every right and the constitutional authority to appoint a temporary person to sit on the court. Probably not to his political advantage to do so. More likely he sends someone up for confirmation. Someone that would normally be approved, with a bit of a fight, but doable. He does that and it's a political edge for the dems as the repubs stonewall. This will provide some steam for the democratic platform.
Of course this issue will also energize the republican base, as well it should. Elections have consequences. The senate race will now take on more importance. Repubs hold the senate and win the WH, we'll get a staunch conservative for the court. It's basically status quo. Dems win the WH, but not the senate, it's a hell of a fight. Dems win the WH and the senate, it's lefty heaven as the court takes a hard left turn.
Both sides will create their doomsday scenario and beat it to death on the campaign trail. Too bad we just can't pick someone qualified and move on. Whatever would we do without all the "end of days" debate between the kooks?

I note that the republican leadership starts out tough and then caves.
Not for a minute do I think McConnell or Ryan will not do what the cronies tell them to do.

Remember boehner made that "stand against" illegal immigration funding... and ultimately put forward a "clean" bill which funded it.

I recall McConnell doing the same song and dance.
We need to start to primary everyone of these guys up for election in every district.

Obama is a traitor and traitors don't get to pick supreme court justices. It simply isn't going to happen and McConnell did us all a favor by stating it openly.

That leaves the Obama regime with a choice, squander the tiny amount of political capital that a treasonous lame-duck can gather or pursue some other lame issue like climate change which the next president will simply undo.

Obama might as well just get a few extra rounds of golf in because he isn't going to get jack done before his term is up and he returns to Chicago to help Rahm fuck that up some more.
