oops i overlooked this one...posts flyin' up too quick ok brudda, I take b) God is not the author of evil. He is not the AUTHOR however he IS ultimately RESPONSIBLE as he holds declared ultimate sovereignty over ALL things. This distinction might be six vs half a dozen to you, but it's a significant distinction for yours truly. Hence the context effort. Rs7 I saw 2001 when I was a kid and don't recall much except that I had a vague conception that it was very cool....and I remember my dad telling me how HAL was taken from the three letters after IBM and how IBM was going to do serious damage to the world.... Now, I WISH the end of the thread were fast approaching, though my WISHES have no bearing on how reality will play out...one last small example of a point I have been trying to make... Seinfeld: "You're insane!" Kramer: "Am I? Or am I SO SANE that you just BLEW YOUR MIND? Yeeaghh!!"
Well because Dark believes in ABSOLUTE TRUTH DblArrow... ABSOLUTE TRUTH WOULD HAVE A STRAIGHT FOWARD AND ABSOLUTE ANSWER TO THE ABOVE QUESTION... ABSOLUTE TRUTH DOES NOT LEAVE GRAY AREAS... IT IS NOT BASED ON SUBJECTIVENESS... THE TRUTH CANNOT BE RELATIVE... IT IS ABSOLUTE! Now this is my ABSOLUTE LAST POST... PEACE and good trading, Commisso
Suggest you (and everyone) read the book. It is, to me, the most brilliantly creative work on the theory of evolution/creation ever written. Arthur C. Clark is a rare genius. I saw the movie in college, listened to everyone argue/debate what it was about (instead of studying...what is college really for?) But then I read the book. Stanley Kubrik made a visualization of the book, but with no explanation. There was no way to understand the movie without having read the book. And no, it had very little to do with IBM....althougth it had a lot to do with technology. Just not mankinds'. Maybe God is a techno geek? Does that conflict with religion? (I am NOT saying that is what it is about...just a question that just popped into my head thinking about your IBM reference). By the way, the day following finishing reading the book, I RAN over to the Marine Institute to find out about other "intelligent life"...not thinking anything but dophins, that is where I ended up. I spoke to a scientist there. He told me that they isolated 2 dolphins from one another. Taught one something. They (the 2 dolphins) could not hear or see one another. They were not sharing the same water in any way. Not the same pumps, lines, nothing. Yet the one that was taught was able to convey the knowledge to the other. Hmmmmm. Maybe if they had opposing thumbs.....
LOL very cool goes to show we know a lot less about reality than we think dolphins with telepathic ability? what a patently stupid and ridiculous idea! that's simply impossible, harumph harumph harumph...anyone who would believe nonsense like that isn't living in the real world, grumble grumble snipe...
first, thanks dark for the thoughts on good/evil. you make sense. secondly, anyone interested in god, technology, myth, magic and all my favorite things--i HIGHLY RECCOMEND "techgnosis" by eric davis. this book changed my view and life. best, surf
Oh wait, do you mean simple behavior transference as opposed to telepathy, that has happened with a number of different animals, like the sparrow in England who figured out how to get the cap off the milk jug and drink the froth, then within a short period of time hundreds of his fellow sparrows were doing it...if the original bird had set up shop as a fulltime instructor it still wouldn't have explained the rapid behavior spread no matter how you slice it: WEIRD man, WEIRD
I agree...my point exactly. ALSO, how arrogant are we to believe we are alone? the first? the last? Someone in this thread (too hard to find anything now) said something about the universe expanding, not expanding, whatever.....but went on to ask "what was there before"...well, seems to me that if God/nature "created" the universe, then to me, what is more incomprehensible than the age or size of the universe, is the time that existed before that! How long was there nothing? What was there before there was nothing? How long is always? I think that THESE kinds of questions can drive anyone insane....so we must believe in a superior being. How else can we deal with the incomprehensible? We all have our own deities whether we acknowledge them or not. We are truly too insignificant not to. (IMHO). Thank God I'm an Atheist
