  2. Your entire argument has been on dark being "absolutely certain"....you have been stating that he can't be absolutely certain....what makes you absolutely certain of that??? Thats just the way he feels....whats wrong with believing you are absolutely certain...I wake up every morning thinking I am 100% certain I will make it as a trader....even with facts ( not belief) stacked agaisnt me, I am 100% certain I will survive....what the outcome actualy is doesnt matter to me right now..the only thing that matters is what I believe...

  3. :D

perhaps my 'absolute certainty' is relative to my lack of certainty in other things. I have more faith in a coherent structure of understanding which cannot change than i do in the idea that the sun will rise tomorrow or that gravity will remain intact an hour from now. The sun could burn out or gravity could cease and there would still be a plausible explanation for those left to study why whatever happened happened. There could be no logical suspension of my understanding of reality that would allow for rational explanation. Therefore I have stronger faith in God than I do in observed phenomena or the extrapolated continuation of cause/effect events- which I must add is about as strong as it gets.

p.s. i agree with the flavor of the idea that lots of people do bad and stupid things in the name of religion. but what does that have to do with truth. not much as far as i can see.

  4. Whatever reality is, it sucks. I would rather live in my fantasy world. I can dream of mistake free trading, cold beers for free and my kids asking me for something besides money or a ride.

  6. LOL

that reminds me of another great matrix inspired debate:

after the movie a bunch of dudes got into a great back and forth over whether the bald guy was smart or stupid in wanting to re-insert himself into the system, whether a thoroughly convincing fantasy would be better than a true but painful reality, i.e. is ignorance bliss or is understanding worth the pain.

You hit the nail on the head.

    PEOPLE CANT BE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN.

So, what does a person do who wants to learn physics, but doesn't know physics?

He goes and finds someone who does know physics.

So what should all the uncertain people in the world do? Look for that person who knows everything. By definition, that would be God.

Whether you beleive in him or not, his very name infers that he is opposite from you, better than you, smarter, cooler, more beautiful, wealthier, and and everything else that you wish you could be. He is certainty while you are uncertainty.

The reason people don't want to find God, is because they are trying to play mini-God. Because without a Supreme Person, we all become equal, and therefore, we all become our own God. We try to control, enjoy, and be served.

Knowing that we are not God, would spoil all this.

However, enjoyment doesn't last forever, and we get a whole lot of misery interspersed. So just give it up.

So atheists, stop pretending to be God. Stop trying to rule out the possibility of a Certainty. Everything has it's opposite. Your uncertainty has it's opposite too.

What an I am godist does is stop seeking. They limit everything to their understanding. A person who is sincere, will never stop seeking until he has found certainty. And God arranges for such a person to find him.

Those of you who are atheists are so because you accept yourself as the ultimate authority, judge, and jury. You rely on yourself, even though the imperfections are obvious.

It would seem to me that a scientific mind would inquire as to what is perfect, and certain, and the opposite of everything we have and understand in this world. But, instead, science has limited itself to trying to find perfection and certainty in imperfection and uncertainty.

The only way to know the truth, is to look OUTSIDE of the bubble of your perception. It requires looking with your heart and intelligence. It requires sincerity.

  9. Your laughter is a bit forced bro

As you know our language is fuzzy and absolute is a human language term, I was trying to make an analogy to give you the flavor of how I see things

I maintain 100% certainty in that my entire existence confirms my belief and I have zero doubt, if you want to take apart specific definitions of words feel free....when certainty is weaved into the very fabric of existence what more do you want...

if you can give me an example of anyone anywhere being more certain than the certainty I propose, I will eat crow....if not, then my certainty is 'absolute' by any available standard and we are just demonstrating the limitations of words

p.s. by the way, a fixed point or observation can be absolute and relative at the same time, depending on the perspective from which it is viewed and the purpose for which it is examined. Again this is not a contradiction in logic but an example of the limitations of our words....

  10. I am in the "ignorance is bliss" camp. On the other hand certainty has its upside.
