Science deals with the closed system of observable reality. God transcends this closed system and therefore cannot be observed with microscope or telescope. You will find that many of those who believe in Him do so not because they want to, but because they have to. On the journey from losing trader to winning trader, many key principles come to light. In hindsight they seem obvious. My personal path to profitable trading had me smacking my forehead countless times, exclaiming "how could I not have seen that before!" I would read old trading books after spending time in the markets and it was as if they were new books read with new eyes. Understanding literally changes reality as you perceive it because you are able to perceive things more clearly and correctly when the puzzle pieces fit. It is not a stretch of imagination but rather an inundation of clarity. Logical faith deepens when your root understanding of reality is correct, because your further observations and discoveries confirm and anchor that faith. The more I understand about science, chaos, complexity theory, philosophy, mathematics, sociology, biology, ad infinitum, the more God's existence at the center of reality becomes vibrantly clear to me. God is not the only head scratcher for scientists. Other phenomena within science transcend the closed system as well. In order to explain reality, scientists have to speculate on additional dimensions that cannot be detected or discovered with known instruments. If you want a simple example of science to shake your faith in the real before taking the larger step to God, take a comprehensive look at string theory (here is a snippet): http://www.lassp.cornell.edu/GraduateAdmissions/greene/greene.html p.s. a quote from the link to give the rough idea: 'There is a price to be paid for this solution, however. It turns out that the equations of string theory are self consistent only if the universe contains, in addition to time, nine spatial dimensions.' feeling less smug yet?
First of all, I think we should change traditional view of logic: 0 - false, 1 - true, no other options. In fuzzy logic some statement can be 0,567563653... true. 0 and 1 are just the extremes. I think that our reality is a complex, infinite fractal. It's a very hard task to understand many things. Show me a 100% proof that 1945874654 or more civilizations ( similar to our ) are not existing in my finger! 9 dimensions... Maybe In 2038 scientists will tell you there're 34 dimensions Please give me a definition of "dimension". If you'll use the word "space" - please give me a definition of "space", etc. etc.... ad infinitum. Can you imagine infinity? Between 0 and 1 there're infinite # of figures. Math is also a fractal. Go deeper, you'll see the same structures.
Good points DT-Waw. Just to throw out some clarification: Fuzzy logic is a useful blunt instrument for shattering the false precision of science, but I don't think we should take that ball and run with it too far. Fuzziness is a critique of our blurry perception, not a critique of reality itself. Look at the objects in the room around you. How many are there? How many ways can you classify them? You can go from a single set- "room objects"- all the way to a basically infinite set, if you wanted to break each object down into individual quarks and gluons. When a question has varied answers, it is often the question that is imprecise, not the perceived reality it stems from. When does a pile become a nonpile? Where does the wrist shade into a hand? When does nonlife become life? These questions do not present problems with reality. They present problems with our imprecise definitions. Pile, hand, wrist, life are labels not actuals, and it is the label that contains the flaw. Scientists are fond of putting things in a box. Fuzzy logic is the rebellious notion that the boxes do not always fit, and that we are better off embracing some uncertainty and getting a more accurate view of reality in return. We fancy our language to be nimble and dextrous, when in reality it has blocky hands and wears oven mitts. We fancy ourselves having 20/20 vision, when in reality we are mostly blind. All the more reason to stay humble. 'Who is this that darkens my counsel with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.' -Job 38:2-3
1 thing is 4 sure: ITS A GIANT LUCK THAT YOU ARE ALIVE. Enjoy life be happy you are here only for the moment
How true....going to play golf and ENJOY my life right now. Good luck all!!!!!!! (BTW, I was a widower at a VERY young age....we really are here only for the "moment")
ahhh DT you say it so well... I personaly do not affirm or deny anything, i just try to get into harmony with the universe and let it guide me where it will... I do not need to KNOW anything to lead a happy and fulfilling life... IMO the more and more you think you know on an intellectual level the more discord there will be... "Those who think they know; don't, and those who know they don't know; know!" Lao-Tzu
Hey DT if you have not read Godel, Escher, & Bach: An eternal golden braid... check it out... i think you will really enjoy it! PEACE and good trading, Commisso
