Subscribe to / highlight specific poster(s)

  1. It's a feature that would be similar to "subscribing" to a thread (in which case we get a email notification whenever someone writes new post in that thread).

I'd be great if one could "subscribe" to certain PEOPLE and get a notification email everytime that poster writes something new. Or even a summary of links to such posts on a daily basis (like a "digest").

Some people write consistently useful posts and it'd be a great way to have ET sw track those posts for us.

You could use the "buddy" list, with one more checkbox in "Your accout" like: get email notification when a poster in your buddy lists posts.

    Thanks for considering this feature.

  2. Also, the ability to export the ignore list in .txt/csv whatever.

  3. Baron:

Any chance of this "subscribe" feature (inverse of "ignore") be implemented soon?

Or at least a RSS feed?

Much as I enjoy reading ET in general (which imo also has the BEST forum user-interface of Web-forum sw, along with webmasterworld's sw), going through seemingly endless oceans of noise and nonsense to find a few gems, is wearing me out.

There are only so many hours in a day !!!

One negative aspect of that feature would be the occasional stalker that comes along. This would make it easy for the stalker to stay on his prey all the time. Over the years, I have seen a few of these guys who get pissed at each other following the other around and posting behind them baiting them everywhere they go. Not pretty.

I understand there are positive things to be had from such a feature, but you have to consider that not all ET'ers use their powers for good, some use them for evil.

  5. I'm curious. I hope you don't mind me asking who you would follow around. The reason I ask is because I find I have the same issue in that there is a lot of useless stuff in here and there are a few people who just get down to business. It would be great if you find certain people's posts useful and can post them here. They probably deserve the recognition. I haven't been around here long enough to know who is blowing smoke and who really knows what he/she is talking about. If you don't want to post publicly, then please drop me a PM. Thanks.

You can already search by author, which would seem to fit your need.

  7. FT71: The selection of "interesting posters" will probably be different for each one of us, because there are many aspects in trading and each one of us may focus on different ones.

For example, I am primarily interested in "intraday swing" (i.e. not scalping like you) trading in the more liquid futures markets in Europe and US (indices, IRs and currencies). Also in mechanical systems. Also in commodities. Also in OPM, running fund etc.

So, while i enjoy reading your posts, many of them are not applicable to my current trading-thematology.

ktm: The "search by author" is NOT suiting my needs. I have the philosophy of letting the machine do the repetitive, boring work. I don't understand your comments about "stalkers following eachother around". These must be less than 1% of ET population.

Allow me to recap things from my point of view:

ET has grown a lot last couple of years, to over 35,000 users. E.g. the addition of the forex sections has obviously attracted a great number of new users (which are also probably new to trading too). That's good news for Baron, because a media like this gets ad revenue based on its audience.

ET can't be all things to all people. As long as everyone is allowed to post freely (which is a good thing) ET will prosper only if it allows people to dig for information that is relevant to THEM.

Right now in certain subjects (the "generic" trading stuff), it's almost as looking for a needle in a haystack!

If such tools are not offered, eventually people will leave ET for more "specialised"/"niche" trading discussion forums.

For useful trading related information probably would be just you and Nihabashi .

  9. Agree.
