Oil passes $122 on $200 oil prediction, supply concerns

Oil prices rise to record over $122 a barrel on prediction of $200 oil, supply concerns

NEW YORK (AP) -- Oil futures blasted to a new record over $122 a barrel Tuesday, gaining momentum as investors bought on a forecast of much higher prices and on any news hinting at supply shortages. Retail gas prices edged lower, but appear poised to rise to new records of their own in coming weeks.

A new Goldman Sachs prediction that oil prices could rise to $150 to $200 within two years seemed to motivate much of Tuesday's buying, although a falling dollar and increasing concerns about declining crude production in Mexico and Russia contributed, analysts say.

  4. Why not $200 a gallon since we're just throwing out hypotheticals?

LMAO! That's even funnier than the people praying for lower gas prices.

    What a great thread.

I am soon getting a $499 Sweeny electric bike which is also foldable. For mere 18 cents it will take me around for a whole week as per the current needs. Will also give needed exercise and fresh air. Lesser chances of ramming into somebody also.

Car will kick in only for long distances of more than 5 miles. :D

By Pablo Gorondi, Associated Press Writer

Oil prices close in on $126 a barrel before US driving season as investors flee the dollar

Oil prices neared $126 per barrel Friday on the eve of the U.S. driving season as a weakening U.S. dollar drove investors to snap up commodities.

Light, sweet crude for June delivery rose to a record $125.98 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange near midday before falling back to $125.75, up $2.06 on the day, by the afternoon in Europe.

Oil sets record near $128; pump price at high, too

Friday May 16, 11:41 am ET

By Adam Schreck, AP Business Writer

Oil prices spike to record near $128 a barrel, as retail gas and diesel hit new highs

NEW YORK (AP) -- Oil prices surged more than $3 Friday, shattering a previous record in a spike near $128 a barrel, as prices at the pump pushed to new highs of their own.
The gains come 10 days before the Memorial Day holiday, the traditional start of the peak U.S. summer driving season, suggesting that retail gas prices have further to rise.

The American Economy is not built for expensive gas. Your already seeing people giving up working and just going on welfare because between putting gas in the car and the kids in daycare its a losing proposition to work. You have to keep in mind that in Europe the cities are very compact and people use mass transport. In the US the exact opposite is true.

  10. Even with high prices for petrol people still drive and earn low wages. They just do without the things that are seen as a right, such as new clothes and furniture, eating out, having any fun or holidays. Just because they're finding it difficult to get by doesn't mean they're lazy slobs.
