The trillion dollar deficit was due to an economic crash, it wasn't structural - the structural deficit came from Bush's tax cuts and Medicare Part D. Democrats unlike Republicans do not get spend money on a credit card, they have to pay for it and they paid for ACA with targeted tax hikes on the rich and corporations, there is nothing wrong with paying for what you want to spend on. Democrats have historically spent taxpayer money on taxpayers unlike Republicans who spend on 'military' which is nothing but a giveaway to defense lobbyists and their corporate benefactors. Look at the condition red states are in, other than suburban pockets, everyone is suffering and overworked but Republicans with their mastery over marketing techniques and culture wars manage to escape the blame.
