that's why they call it the New Testament. The role of Jesus was to break the law, identify it as unreasonable and impossible to live by. The most famous of all is "You have heard it written.....But I say." Which put his jewish supporters in quite a bind so they modified it from "Break the law" to Fulfill the law. But on a deeper lesson, the Law was not the old Jewish law, but the law of Karma. The message of Christ is freedom from karma. Carry on, I am anxiuosly waiting to see what this all has to do with string theory
"Sociobiologists, see for example E.O. Wilson, recognize that our moral kindness toward members of our own tribe first, and then members of our own species, has evolved in us and is instinctual. Religious beliefs drummed into our heads from a young age can overcome our instinctual moral response to members of our own species. So because a sociobiologists "recognize" it .. its true? Man's nature is good and religion ruins man nature? Ridiculous to try to bring in experts to make that statement. Secondly... you then equate Islam to Christianity. Until you leftists have the balls to call out the difference... you are party of the problem. I know of no Rabbis preaching violence in America. I know of no priests preaching violence... in fact I hear just the opposite all the time. I know of no preachers... (and if any do they are immediately isolated by the community. Yet we know imams who preach violence. We have terror mosques networks. Do we have a terror temple or church network. But, you won't listen to me... so..
One of the difficulties faced by historians and Church clerics is that there is no scripture in the New Testament that was written by anyone who actually knew Jesus. And the origin of much of the new testament is clouded. Some of the New Testament did not crop up until centuries after Jesus's death. Of course if you are a Christian, Jesus is not dead, he is just sitting next to God (apparently on God's right) waiting to visit us mortals again. Because Jesus, God, and the Holy Ghost are all the same entity, then we have the same entity sitting next to itself. Ordinarily this would be quite difficult. It seems reasonable that some may find this situation rather bizarre.
Not accurate. Apostle Paul met Jesus. And yes, ordinarily anything is bizarre to the one who wants to find it bizarre. I find it extraordinarily bizarre how anyone can believe that life, nature, in all its forms and expressions, and the human being all originated from an explosion of gases. So where did the gases come from and the force that causes such gases to collide? It appears to me that evolution theory is the most bizarre and illogical explanation of any of the theories.
How can you make such a definitive statement? How would you know the bible was not written by some of those who knew Jesus? Paul and Luke may not have known Jesus but Mathew and John were apostles and Mark was probably a follower. Bart Ehrman is far from a definitive source on this subject. His argument that John and Matthew could not have written their gospels because at one time they were illiterate fisherman is a massive stretch considering John lived until after A.D. 98. according to tradition and historians.
whatever, The Christian message and the Bible have little to do with each other. Jesus set people free from the old jewish law claiming the law was written in your heart. And then a bunch of Christians came in and perverted the whole thing. The old testament was written to insure the supremacy of the jewish people and the New Testament was written to insure the supremacy of the church. But if you can read around all that, there is nothing in the bible which contradicts sub atomic particles being created and much in it which confirms the "new" discoveries. Best way to read the bible is to imagine you are trying to explain love and forgiveness to a trader. Like the good book says, he just spoke in parables.
there is very good evidence that ostriches evolved from dinosaurs. (and they taught me when I was kid that they all went extinct.)
Really? Where is that evidence? And I am also still waiting for some evidence that we descended from trees as monkeys. Even the Virgin Mary to me is way more credible than some of the evolutionist theories. Most of those make absolutely no sense, they don't even reconcile philosophically PS I have no issue with species getting extinct or survival of the fittest and natural adaptation.
Adam and Eve were monkeys until they got smart and started walking on their feet. No more living off the bounty of the jungle. Now they had to walk to find food. Plus childbirth started hurting like hell.
