The economics of energy say you can't do this. I already went over why. You might ask yourself why energy is only at 10%. Even Trump recognized there is some danger to this policy.

Not a mistake to fight back. It's not just tariffs there is going to be an effort to deny the US materials that are important to your economy in many states. I loved the idea about 100% tariffs on Tesla products should be in the package if Trump escalates things.

Denied denied denied. Not a smart thing to do. Time will tell who is acting foolish.

Watch and learn. Canadians are willing to go to war to illustrate to Americans why Trump's policies don't work. Why the US wants us as an enemy is beyond rational thinking it's Trump's vindictiveness and irrationality in play here. Again, we didn't deny his request. We spent new money on border control, even though we already have strong border control ( arguably stronger then US border control ). I see you share Trump's habit of committing destructive actions than trying to blame everyone else for the impact.

Clearly none of you finished high school so I'll help with some remedial subtext.

Trump was desperate for cash and was largely performative in the first term. Now he's got the DJT and memecoin haul so he doesn't need anyone. He'll still lose it all but it will take some time.

He's not (now) being performative... he's a Nihilist in the true sense of the word when it doesn't involve self-injury. He's a cowardly fck that wants to see it all burn now that he comfortably feels he's safe.

He will push it as far as he can and stop just short of impeachment.

In this case you're exactly right, why be as stupid as your trading partner and shot yourself in your foot?

10% of course we want Canada's oil and Canada wants to sell it to us ...but....if things escalate (and they likely will now that the trade war is on) Canada may end up selling oil to China or some other country and US will just drill baby drill. We have oil wells capped off. Besides...

"The United States has been an annual net total energy exporter since 2019
Up to the early 1950s, the United States produced most of the energy it consumed.1 U.S. energy consumption was higher than U.S. energy production in every year from 1958–2018. The difference between consumption and production was met by imports, particularly crude oil and petroleum products such as motor gasoline and distillate fuel oil. Total energy imports (based on heat content) peaked in 2007 and subsequently declined in nearly every year since then. Increases in U.S. crude oil and natural gas production reduced the need for crude oil and natural gas imports and contributed to increases in crude oil and natural gas exports. The United States has been a net total energy exporter—total energy exports have been higher than total energy imports—since 2019.

Total U.S. energy exports in 2023 were the highest on record
On an energy content basis, even though U.S. total energy imports increased by about 1% in 2023, U.S. total energy exports were the highest on record, at about 29.50 quadrillion British thermal units (quads), and increased by about 8% from 2022. Total energy exports exceeded total energy imports by about 7.80 quads, the largest annual margin on record."

Me thinks Canada best rethink getting into a big trade war with the US. Best to make haste and cooperate with the two requests.

Who is going to pay Canada's tariffs? Canadian importers? Has not your argument been US importers will pay US tariffs. So, who will pay Canada's tariffs? More revenue for Revenue Canada or will the US pay Canada's tariffs?

Because our shot is our big toe. Canada's is the entire foot. Don't you get it? No, you don't. Canada may be the place for you??? But somehow me thinks you will stick with south FL. "birds of a feather flock together"

Ok trade war it is then! You watch and learn. Canadians fear Trump policies for a few reasons. Among them they will MAGA and Canada will have to find someone else to buy their products. It is not smart to get in a trade war for illustration purposes. Two requests: DENIED.

On the other hand a trade war over the long haul will be good. It will help dismantle globalism/globalization ...the modern day scourge.

Trump forced Nafta2 onto Canada/Mexico. Now he tore up the agreement again. He's turning America into a joke. I'm sure all the incels love him for that but in the long term it won't be good for the States.
