In response, Trudeau announced Canada will hit back against the U.S. with tariffs on $155 billion worth of American goods in the coming days

Trudeau said Canada won't stand for an attack from a country that was supposed to be an ally and friend.

If you exclude oil, the US actually has a trade surplus with Canada. He's hurting US exporters. Not to mention he is gonna wreck the North American Auto Industry. So this whole thing is senseless unless you look at the Russian angle. He is Putin's sledgehammer basically.

Senseless and idiotic IOW so Trumpy.

He's talking about excluding tariffs on crude oil imported from Canada and Mexico, of course. Goes against trying to lower gasoline prices. He gets that, not much else.

Not smart thinking by Canada. If by enacting tariffs USA is the one to suffer as most seem to think here then what is bad for the goose is worse for the gander. Um who is going to pay Canada's tariffs?

You can't have it both ways. If USA is blowing their big toe off then Canada just chopped their foot off.

People are underestimating Trumps actions to make America Great Again.

Tariffs are a good thing. Canada will get busy making their own products and quit importing from others or they will continue down the free trade path but with others.

USA will get busy making their own products and we will see Made in the USA again and become a manufacturing powerhouse again instead of just a bunch of consumers.

Mexico if they enact retaliatory tariffs will be chopping both legs off if I may use a figure of speech. If they are the ones tp pay the tariffs to their own government.

AMERICANS ARE ARROGANT. CANADIANS APPEAR TO BE ARROGANT AND MEXICANS APPEAR TO BE PROUDFUL. IMO.

This could be the age of the tariffs.

Before most every one here argued he is hurting US consumer and exporters. I indicated no that Canada and Mexico would bear the brunt. Is that now your argument too that he is hurting the US or have we jumped to the old "russian thing"? An out of date story.

Look He was asking for two things. Neither country wanted to cooperate so they opted for the tariffs.

So you and others say tariffs mean the US will suffer the brunt so now who will suffer the brunt for Canada's 155 billion dollars tariffs and you can bet Mexico will retaliate with tariffs so who is going to suffer from their tariffs?

Just fk off with this nonsense. Yes, we fired back with tariffs ignoring Trump's bs that we shouldn't. It's a full out trade war should be fun seeing Americans squirm. Our economy is a lot stronger than you think.

That whole idea of the USA becoming a producing powerhouse shouldnhave been on its way years ago. The cost to manufacture here is just way too high. Will some start to manufacture innthenUS again. Absolutely yes but we will not get to the point where it's everything made in America. Its just not possible. We destroyed our made in America decades and decades ago. Most of the idea of bringing that back here is just nonsense talk and long forgotten

Who is trying to have it both ways?

You are way overthinking this. It is as simple as Canadians have their pride too, and won't be bullied.

It's not about econ. It's about pride.

Depends, there are winners and losers from tarrifs. It is not universally good.

Doesn't matter, it's called pride. It's not about econ.

Please calm down and stop raging.

If you honestly read the OP's post, he is not pro Trump tariffs. His point is, if you say you are going to pass the tariffs, then just do it, and stop stringing us along.

He is not expressing a viewpoint on the tariffs themselves.
