  1. Unfortunately for the Democrats, voter turn out in a mid term election rarely exceed 40% while it is generally about 50% in a presidential election. The opposition party usually gains in the US mid term election. By that analysis, if voting were mandatory in the US, the Democrats could win in this election. However, if voting were made mandatory, I am sure there were be some uproar in the Tea party about their "freedom" being taken away.

  2. You are looking at the wrong ends. One is taken facing the capitol building, the other, the Lincoln memorial.

  3. Mediate is looking at the comparisons between the two rallies. They note what Glynnis MacNicol wrote about the 8/28 assessments:

  7. If voting were mandatory ......

The Democratic Party is one of two major contemporary political parties in the United States, along with the Republican Party. The party's liberal platform is largely considered center-left in the U.S. political spectrum.[1][2][3] The party has the lengthiest record of continuous operation in the United States. The party had 72 million registered voters in 2004.

The Republican Party has the second most registered voters as of 2004 with 55 million, encompassing roughly one-third of the electorate.[1] As of September 2010, Republicans fill a minority of seats in both the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, hold a minority of state governorships, and control a minority of state legislatures.

  8. Of course there were more at the stewart rally than the Beck rally. The Beck Rally was 2 months ago. In sept, about 95k jobs were lost so there were more people with free time to go to the Stewart rally.

Also lets not forget that half those numbers belong to colbert too.
