1.Democrats/progressives manage a society far better then Republicans/conservatives can.FDR,JFK,Lincoln,Teddy Roosevelt,Bill Clinton etc consistently rank among the country's best presidents. 2.2 out of 3 of the countries most populated states are blue states 3.Texas grew, but much of that growth is from Hispanics, most Hispanics vote democrat
Here is a fine example of what you mean: Top 10 poverty cities in America 1. Detroit, MI 32.5% 2. Buffalo, NY 29..9% 3. Cincinnati, OH 27.8% 4. Cleveland, OH 27.0% 5. Miami , FL 26.9% 6. St. Louis , MO 26.8% 7. El Paso, TX 26.4% 8. Milwaukee, WI 26.2% 9. Philadelphia, PA 25.1% 10. Newark, NJ 24.2% U.S. Census Bureau, 2006 American Community Survey, August 2007 What do the top ten cities (over 250,000) with the highest poverty rate all have in common? Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1961 Buffalo, NY (2nd) hasn't elected one since 1954 Cincinnati, OH (3rd)... since 1984 Cleveland, OH (4th)... since 1989 Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican mayor. The 10 poorest states(A lot of Southern Red States on this list ) http://money.cnn.com/2007/08/28/real_estate/wealthiest_states/ New Mexico $40,629 Montana $40,627 Tennessee $40,315 Kentucky $39,372 Louisiana $39,337 Alabama $38,783 Oklahoma $38,770 Arkansas $36,599 West Virginia $35,059 Mississippi $34,473
Are you kidding? That doesn't even include cost of living figures for those states. You can live like a king on 40k in Tennessee compared to 40k in california or new england. 40k, even in a larger city in Tennessee, like Nashville, will yield an infinitely better standard of living than the peasant life you would have in new england or cali. Absolute figures are meaningless when taxation and cost of living aren't included.
Top 10 wealthiest states( Alot of Blue States on this list) http://money.cnn.com/2007/08/28/real_estate/wealthiest_states/ Maryland $65,144 New Jersey $64,470 Connecticut $63,422 Hawaii $61,160 Massachusetts $59,963 New Hampshire $59,683 Alaska $59,393 California $56,645 Virginia $56,277 Minnesota $54,023
Alot of red states on that list too... Further, as I said, I'd far rather live in TN on 40k, than in MA on 59... After taxes there wont be much difference anyhow. Despite the fact that you will live a nice life on the 40k in TN, and still struggle with the 59 in MA.
When your view of Economics is made up of beliefs like " extending unemployment benefits is the best way to create jobs...... " DOH!? Speaks for itself.
no, 40k income would land you a trailer in MA, in TN 40k lands you a nice loft or nice new home in the burbs. 40k income can get what? 225k home with good credit?? Let's see what 225 will buy us in nashville- http://nashville.craigslist.org/reb/2127022180.html ahh yes, a luxury highrise loft in a swank area now, just for shits and giggles lets take it up to 230 and see what you get in boston http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/reb/2122787900.html a 'two room studio' on the outskirts of town not to mention the absurd income tax in MA, and TN doesn't have an income tax... not to mention the much higher RE taxes of MA vs TN, higher gas prices in MA, worse weather, anyone with a brain would take TN in a heart beat.
