Balmer was crucial in taking MSFT from a 30 person private company to a public company that dominated it's field. He just sucked at running it as a mature company years later. That's doesn't make one a mediocre person, it just makes them really good at one thing and not at another. Throwing stones when one has achieved success at neither of those things isn't terribly impressive. More useful to learn the lesson and focus on what you're good at.
I was a contractor at Microsoft when he was the director of OS2 development team with IBM. At the meetings, he used to come in and lay down on the floor while conducting the meeting. He is a weird fucker.

Steve jobs was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003. It's mind boggling what he and apple accomplished after he was diagnosed during his last 8 years.
