I read some Van Tharp years ago, a bit bummed to find out he died! Drove by his office once, would have considered a session with him.
Yeah, I get this. I think I've been happy all along. What the "unhappiness" portion of things is now is thinking I ought pay better attention to receive market rewards through hard work and right thinking. Like, perhaps I am missing out on further success by not being prepared and willing.
This is the way i see it. You spend a decade, two, three or four while loading the funds into SnP or some thing of that sort. Now you can retire, since the income from investments is enough to keep your living standarts. But here's the problem : you want, - more. So either you get the skill (cuz if you had the skill you wouldn't ask about how to 10x) and achieve that 10x or find the job again & increase the net worth. Haven't seen motivation lasting on people. Life vision & determination, hunger, that should last. Timestamped Seminars or books/videos, can provide motivation, but it's, temporary.
I don't necessarily mean you need to own one, BUT spending $20K to go to a restaurant you just heard about for the experience and not the gram is a level....
Money is money, but time marches on. I left my co workers last century. Many are still working and are in the 100mil range now. I was never going to make it to that range, so I decided to do different things, work on my health, family and personal life. Looking back, it was a better choice, so far. I don't want helicopters, expansive houses etc. Would rather enjoy the day and be re-created by nature, a good meal I make and taking a nap. Still super busy doing things, but never under real pressure. More than 10 mil per person is a pain in the ass, imo. It is better to do with less money and more time, than more money and less time on the planet. When they interview people on their death bed, the things they say they wished they had done are: work less, taken better care of their teeth, and been a bit (or a lot) more kind.
It's laughable? Yet you mentioned Van Tharp. last I checked, he did exactly what you think is laughable. It takes a real challenge to get motivated again. What are you made of excuses or results?
How long did it take? How long will 10x take? If you indeed do have "no money worries", then what value will 10x of enough provide you? You have a profound lack of imagination. Step 1: Get psychological counseling. You seem to have a problem reaching into the "Self Actualization" zone. Step 2: Do what you like as long as it does not infringe on others doing what they like. Rock on ya badass, congratulations.
This is a real problem even though those who have not had that same level of success will laugh. You can't idle your mind without paying a price. "retirement" is the wrong context for what you have moved into. It sounds like you are already starting to see the problems with it. lol. Truly understanding that you are designed to be challenged and work hard will give you the motivation you need. Don't make some multiple of your current net worth the goal. Some of my "retirement" challenges I have taken on were entirely non-business. Others were business but without the stress of big commitments and big dollars. Your DNA needs these challenges. The dollar amounts aren't as important as you think.
Exactly. The roads to success are almost always unpopular. You just have to offer advice and accept that most people will miss the significance.
