  1. We are slowly coming to the halfway mark of the year.

I started another poll about how traders rate themselves. Now I wanted to start one more poll asking traders if they are profitable this year.

    Are you profitable?

  2. hi JM

if you asked me that Q last yr I would have said

I was hardly trading ... had family issues to attend to that were more important than money

I did try to look at the markets in my spare time
last yr and refine my ideas

funny thing is I thought last yr that if I were to make good money this yr it would be in stock index futures ... however my bread and butter
has been the precious metals round the clock

I will only trade other derivatives from time to time and be willing to lose some money trading them
while I try to figure out what works and does
not work for me there ...

you know what ... I used to try to take every penny and still do like to do that but sometimes
when I want to "kick" out my position I do not care really at what prices I get out as long as they
are within a general area that still is profitable

If you've have posted this poll last week I would have been profitable. However this week has put paid to that.

  4. It might be better to express YTD profits in percentage terms rather than absolute dollars. A guy with $2M in a 4% money market account has made more than $25K from start of year to current date, yet you wouldn't call him a great trader. (He might be a Mutual Fund Market Timer whose system has told him to stay in cash thus far).

  5. +67% ytd

almost 1/2 way to my goal for the year

    no losing months...so far

    nice! congrats.

  7. these polls are a tad silly

a trader can be having his best yr ever

and have made 1000 % or more in his acct

YTD but if it was a small acct. the world will not notice

however if a HF gent makes 20 % on 100M

    in YTD performance

    he is considered a genius

  8. started yr with 65,000 now up to low 260ks so a little over 300% :)

    It's only a poll.

  10. Agreed. This thread was started 5 and a half months into the year. To be up $25K, one only has to average $4,545/month. Not impressive to say the least. If I don't make that in a day, it's a bad day.
