Whether the WH room had a signal piped-in, who knows (if I was the Prez, I'd want to see it) - but somebody was watching it (CIA headquarters?). It's old technology to transmit live from helmet gear.

Now, the helicopter remnants in the compound is a bit harder to explain it if never happened, since that was evidence left behind. So they would have either had to have planned "Let's make sure we leave behind something they can see", or it crashed during the operation there.
