Squawk box, big contract useful or not??

    I guess this thread is dead, but just one last word. It's useful to some people who get something out of it, just as an indicator could be useful to someone else. If it helps you make money, then it's good, if it doesn't, then it's not good.

    Totally agree that if one gets use out of any indicator it is well worth it for that individual trader.

    In reply to one of the other posts, if Goldman comes in and buys 300 it matters...a bit. If they come in - or any house for that matter - with scale up buy orders for 1500 SP majors, then it really matters. The problem with the box is that the orders are getting done on the minis as well, and those thumbprints are hard to see. So the guy quoting has very little idea as to what is actually transacting (is GS buying in the pit and selling on the box for later in the day?)

    Essentially, the market has become pretty anonymous...in order to keep business the box quoters tend to "stretch" the truth about who is doing what and for how much size.
