  1. Try setting your charts to the maximum number of days permitted for data collection. Unregistered versions of Quotetracker limit the data collection to two days if I recall correctly. Backfill your charts for the entire two days, and I think you will notice a difference in your results. Right now, it looks as if you are only gathering one day's worth of data.

Correct me if I'm mistaken please. Peak volume for rtsx is over 394,000.

I can't find volume greater than 340,000 for Aug 23 by EOD.

I checked every source I know..scottrade, Fidelity, Yahoo, bigcharts, quote.com.

Have you had any inconsistencies in your data source spydertrader?

  5. I had peak volume calculated at 325,000 shares. Even if I miscalculated, actual volume did exceed FRV Levels by EOD. Such an occurrence dictates an overnight hold. I hope volume continues to improve over the following days (and price with it), but as others have pointed out, this may not end up being the case.

  6. 2005-08-24, Wednesday - Update

This morning, I monitored one list of stocks (6 total equities): Those equities from our daily Hot List and from our Final Universe List finding themselves "In Dry Up."

    Dry Up Stocks

DPTR FORD MCRI NFLX NGPS RADS SNHY VDSI

Our system generated two possible trade signals from the list of six Dry Up Stocks when actual volume exceeded calculated "Low Band" Dry Up Volume prior to 11:30 AM.

    Dry Up Stocks Triggering Signal

    FORD NGPS NFLX

Dry Up Stocks NOT Triggering Signal

    DPTR MCRI RADS SNHY VDSI

FORD did not show price improvement ($23.77) at time of signal generation (9:49 AM). In addition, MACD Histogram showed a negative return (-.3715). Also, The Stochastic Indicator fell below desired levels (17.46). As a result, I took no action with respect to FORD.

NGPS did show price improvement ($26.70) at time of signal generation (10:23 AM). In addition, MACD Histogram showed a positive return (+.1168). Also, The Stochastic Indicator fell above desired levels (95.42). As a result, I entered into a long position with 1000 shares of NGPS receiving a fill price of $26.75 USD.

NFLX did show price improvement ($21.54) at time of signal generation (10:50 AM). In addition, MACD Histogram showed a positive return (+.0851). Also, The Stochastic Indicator fell above desired levels (81.31). As a result, I entered into a long position with 1000 shares of NFLX receiving a fill price of $21.55 USD.

I also sold all shares RTSX this morning as price began to fall. I received a fill price of $26.85 USD. To the rest of you that sold yesterday, very nice job.

  7. 2005-08-24, Wednesday - Update

Only NGPS out of our List of Dry Up Stocks reached FRV levels by EOD.

Price for NFLX reached my stop price in the afternoon. As a result, I sold all shares of NFLX at the $21.12 price point. This intraday trade yielded a single day gross loss of $430 USD or a 2% loss on 1000 shares.

Soon after the open this morning, I watched price begin to fall below the previous day close. As a result, I sold all shares of RTSX at the $26.85 price point. This overnight trade yielded a gross profit of $550 USD or a 2% gain on 1000 shares.

I continue to HOLD all 1000 shares of NGPS from the $26.75 price point. Volume for NGPS exceeded FRV levels by EOD. I plan to hold all shares until at least tomorrow morning.

    Spydertrader,
I hope I'm not becoming annoying with these questions. Forgive me please.

These are the exit criteria I gleaned from my firehose study of Jack Hershey on your journal and links:

    1. Exit EOD if volume is less than FRV.

    2. Exit same day if 2% or Ross's stop are hit.

    3. For positions exceeding FRV first day the following exits apply:

    -- Set 5% trailing stop.

-- If peak volume is hit, exit next morning in first 15 to 30 minutes.

-- Exit when 10% price target is hit. Not ironclad Check charts and relation of current price to trendlines.
Check where entry was in cycle. If entry was early/low or later/higher. Determine if stock has gapped and if volume has been increasing..etc.

    4. Exit after 4 days if no other criteria has been met.

Have I missed anything significant? I thought number 3 and 4 above apply to ngps because FRV was exceeded, but Peak not exceeded. I assume the "not ironclad" only applies to 10% profit target.

    Thanks

  9. Actual volume rarely exceeds both FRV & Peak Volume levels on the same day (as they did yesterday with RTSX). We look for FRV levels on the first day we enter a long position in order to hold a position overnight. After the first day, we would like to see increasing volume on subsequent days. We exit after reaching Peak Volume Levels, or after 4 days, or when one of the other exit conditions exist.
