  1. Concerning the Medved QuoteTracker......

For those of you who use it, what is the best source for free intraday data. I have found that there are several options.

    Best Regards

  2. 2005-07-22, Friday - Update

This morning, I monitored one list of stocks (9 total equities): Those equities from our daily Hot List and from our Final Universe List finding themselves "In Dry Up."

    Dry Up Stocks

CMT DCAI FORD IIG PARL RTSX TASR TRGL UBET

Our system generated five possible trade signals from the list of nine Dry Up Stocks when actual volume exceeded calculated "Low Band" Dry Up Volume prior to 11:30 AM.

    Dry Up Stocks Triggering Signal

    CMT DCAI FORD RTSX TRGL

Dry Up Stocks NOT Triggering Signal

    IIG PARL TASR UBET

CMT did NOT show price improvement ($11.26) at time of signal generation (9:36 AM). In addition, MACD Histogram showed a negative return (-.0528). Also, The Stochastic Indicator fell below desired levels (17.19). As a result, I took no action with respect to entering into a long position with CMT.

FORD DID show price improvement ($21.44) at time of signal generation (10:26 AM). In addition, MACD Histogram showed a positive return (+.3298). Also, The Stochastic Indicator fell above desired levels (95.13). As a result, I entered into a long position with FORD receiving a fill price of $21.50 USD on 1000 shares.

TRGL did not show price improvement ($26.25) at time of signal generation (10:36 AM). In addition, MACD Histogram showed a negative return (-.1253). Also, The Stochastic Indicator fell below desired levels (41.54). As a result, I took no action with respect to trading TRGL.

DCAI DID show price improvement ($25.96) at time of signal generation (10:49 AM). In addition, MACD Histogram showed a positive return (+.0326). However, The Stochastic Indicator fell below desired levels (43.34). As a result, I took no action with respect to trading DCAI.

RTSX did not show price improvement ($25.93) at time of signal generation (11:20 AM). In addition, MACD Histogram showed a positive return (+.0282). However, The Stochastic Indicator fell below desired levels (65.12). As a result, I took no action with respect to trading RTSX.

    Trade Updates:

When price for FORD exceeded my 10% Target Price, I sold all shares of FORD receiving a fill price of $23.85 USD on 1000 shares. This Intraday trade yielded a per share profit of +$2.35 USD or $2350 USD on 1000 shares - a gain of 11%.

NGPS also exceeded our 10% Target Price today. As a result, I sold all shares of NGPS receiving a fill price of $36.50 USD on 1000 shares. This Four Day trade yielded a per share profit of +$4.00 USD or $4000 USD on 1000 shares - a gain of 12%.

  3. Scottrader used to have a deal where you could sign up for an account, and use their realtime feed for free. They limited the number of symbols you could monitor to ten. I do not know if they still offer such a deal.

    Hi Sypdertrader,

Thank you for keeping this excellent journal and in the process educating us all.

May I ask if you have kept statistics about this method since you started trading it? I am particulary interested in the -- # of winners (i.e. hitting the 10% profit target) : # of losers (-5%). Even a 1:1 ratio will ensure that that this method is handsomely ahead and was wondering what your experience/figures have been since you started trading this method including the one year prior to starting this journal.

    Thanks again,
    kk70

    Hi Spydertrader,

I've read through this entire thread with great interest and want to thank you for all the effort you've put into it.

Hats off as well to Jack for developing the concept in the first place.

    My questions are these:

1/ What's the minimum account size that would be required to trade the system as you do, that is, placing trades as opportunities present themselves and sometimes having multiple trades open at the same time?

2/ What would be an appropriate account size to trade the system maintaining just one open trade at any given time?

(My background is in trading forex, so I'm not fully versed on all the ins and outs of trading equities.)

Thanks in advance for you help,

    chaos

  6. I have kept an updated results file (attached) in order to differentiate trades I have made in the Journal. An individual using the handle 'Whuulangaaa' used the results to create the following analysis. The summary was posted on USENET (misc.invest.stocks) using the last posted file to this Journal.

The attached Results file contains all updated information through today's trades.

I wrote the following post last summer before beginning the Journal:

    I hope that helps.

  8. Thank you for the kind words. I have discussed how the system works within a variety of market conditions on several occasions within the Journal. Most recently, I commented here

  9. According to many of his posts, Jack Hershey began trading his Equities Methods with a few hundred dollars in an account. He continued to work adding half his paycheck to the account while trading part time. Within three years, Jack moved to full time trader. He never again needed to work for corporate America.

The minimum account size required to trade these methods depends primarily on one's personal goals and lifestyle. Using profits earned for account appreciation requires significantly fewer dollars than using profits as your sole source of income. In addition, trading with an undercapitalized account remains one of the greatest dangers facing any trader. As a result, I recommend starting out small (no matter what your goals) in order to reduce the magnitude of losses incurred during the learning process.

    Good trading to you.
