2005-07-12, Tuesday - Update I apologize for not posting sooner, but due to the few number of Dry Up Stocks, I decided to set my alerts and head to the beach to relax. Before leaving for the day, I set a sell order on FORD at the $21.08 price point (a gain of $1.00 per share) and headed out. While away, I set my computer to monitor today's Dry Up Stocks. According to my computer, TASR DID show price improvement ($10.45) at time of signal generation (10:31 AM). In addition, MACD Histogram showed a positive return (+.0500). However, The Stochastic Indicator fell below desired levels (62.3138). Again, I apologize for the delayed post, but sometimes you just need to take a day to relax and unwind. - Spydertrader

2005-07-13, Wednesday - Update For the first time in quite a while, our system failed to trigger any signals. None of our Dry Up Stocks experienced actual volume which exceeded calculated Low Band Dry Up Volume prior to 11:30 AM. As a result, I took no action with either EZPW or MCRI. - Spydertrader
SPYDERTRADER Thanks for the thread. I came upon the thread a couple of weeks ago. A lot of info. I was using something similiar, the difference is I was using a purely price triggered system with ADX to identify the strong trend(has to be above 200 MA in the first place). If there is no signal triggered in Jack's system, maybe this tells us that the market is ready for a pullback?
Hello Spydertrader, Thanks for your Journal and your consistent hard work toward it. This is the first time that I 've posted in here. I am grateful for your help. Do you use Medved QuoteTracker to setup real-time charts of 30 minites MACD (5,13,6) and Stochastic (14,1,3) ? I got QutoeTracker, and set the datasource from my ameritrade broker. Then i can see the real-time quote from Qtracker, it is 1 minute late at least, i think. I right click on the stock quote, and select historical chart, it brings up an chart where i can select 30 min time frame, but the default seting for macd and stochastics are macd (12, 26, 9) and stochastics (10, 10). Could you please advise me how to change its parameters, i doubt that it has the options to change. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for your interest in our Journal. I hope you find the information here useful. While the overall market may or may not find itself ripe for a pullback, one should not look to The Jack Hershey Equities System as a tool for determining timing for such events. Primarily a 'Long Based' trading strategy, the methodologies used (and the subsequent signals generated) occur independent of the overall market. The System triggers both Long and Short signals in rising markets and declining markets. In my experience, the signals occur with greater frequency and strength during periods of rising markets. Also, keep in mind we only had two equities in our list of Dry Up Stocks for today. I suspect we can point to the low number of Dry Up Stocks as the reason behind today's lack of any signals. - Spydertrader
Right click on any chart and click on Select Indicators from the menu. You will want to choose Volume, MACD and Slow Stochastics from the Available Lower Indicators List. Click the large black arrow pointing to the right to move them to the Selected Lower Indictors window Once you select these three indicators, you see a small Edit button to the right of each. Click it. For MACD, you want EM1=5, EMA2=13 & Smooth=6. For Slow Stochastics, you want %K=14, %D=3 %K Slow=1. Click Apply, then O.K. Now that you have the correct settings, you'll want to save this arrangement as your default chart. Again, right click on the chart, and select Save Chart Template and Reset All. Make sure to save these settings as your default template. Hope that helped. - Spydertrader
