I am wondering what I might be doing that brings the symbol mpwre into my Final Universe? 1. I bring the stocktables.com screen results (in two batches, first 100 symbols and then 101......n) into W-Lab to create two current watchlists; 2. Run "Hershey Equities Rank SCAN v. 1.0.0" on the two watchlists; 3. Print results of the two scans. This gives me a list of stocks that have satisfied the JH Method's requirements for price cycles. Now, I look for stocks in this list that satisfy EPS, Float, and Average Trading Volume requirements. 4. At reuter.com's web site, I run my screen (given below) and transfer the results (currently 1508 stocks) into Excel. 5. Using Excel's search function, I query the list of symbols in my Excel list for each of the symbols created in step 3. This step takes less than 5 minutes. 6. The symbols that occur in both lists satisfy all of the JH Trading Method requirements (I hope!). Therefore, they are added to my Final Universe list if they are not already present. 7. I now run "Hershey Equities dryup Volume Scan v.1.0.0 on the Final Universe List. 8. I then put each symbol produced by the above step through "Hershey Equities Rank v. 3.0.0." This procedure gave me the following symbols: CUTR MPWRE UEPS VPHM. Because dougcs did not find MPWRE, I checked my results and found that MWPRE satisfies the requirements as I have defined them. Here is the screen I designed (and results) and used at the reuter.com site in their Power Screener Lite (free): Screening Condition Count 01 Select Company List: US Companies 8765 02 {FY1EPS_CML}>=0 3703 03 {EPS%ChgA}>=0 2632 04 {Float}>=5 2504 05 {Float}<=60 1552 06 {Vol3MAvg}>=0.15 1508 Description 02 Current Fiscal Year (FY1) EPS (pre-excep/post goodwill) 03 EPS Percent Change, Year Over Year 04 Millions 05 Millions 06 Average Monthly Trading Volume (millions) mpwre Monolithic Power Systems, Inc. 02 {FY1EPS_CML}>=0 0.31 03 {EPS%ChgA}>=0 13.39 04 {Float)=>5<=60 20.60 08 {Vol3MAvg}>=0.15 5.35 Again, is there something obvious that I not doing or interpreting correctly? QCharts shows MPWRE as having a negative EPS. Perhaps, your datasource used a different value for EPS (Quarterly vs Yearly, etc.) than others have used. - Spydertrader
GlennK, I think your screen looks for stocks that trade at least 150,000 shares per month, not 200,000 shares per day. MPWRE trades 192,474 shares per day average (60 day EMA per Stockcharts.com), which would be close enough for me in terms of the JH screen requirement, but probably would not pass through the screens of others on this board. I notice you also have a > 0 % YoY EPS growth requirment which isn't on the original screen. That's fine by me, but I just wanted to point that out to you, because your list will differ from others' lists. I don't use the Stocktables.com screener at all, but ones that I developed with MSN's screener and PowerScreener lite. I still have a similar pool of stocks to draw from, but not all the same as what some of the folks here have. My papertrading has been profitable, regardless (on paper ). Hope that helps. -ace BTW- Using Powerscreener you can create a "Custom List" of the stocks that you get from Stocktables.com and pump them into your Powerscreener screen and save yourself an extra step trying to match the lists. That should shave off a couple of minutes.
Ace-I appreciate your input. You've given me several good things to think about. And, I look forward to dealing with my errors after dinner. Thank you! GlenKK
GlenKK, Good luck in your trading. I am also working with Reuter's Power Screener formerly known as Multex. I've had some trouble creating a company list; seems it freezes up if you feed it too many symbols at once. I tried 100 at a time and it worked. When I got up to a total of 500, I tried to save it and my computer crashed. Of course, I don't know if the crash was due to the screener or another factor. So until I've figured it out, no more using this feature during market hours. MPWRE failed the eps test using Clearstation.com and Reuters as data sources. My list for tomorrow: REDF Today, I entered a position in CUTR when it exceeded FRV near the close. Also, I'll be watching SWN and VPHM, even though they exceed the max. float criteria. I've traded both previously with good results. Doug ps to Spyder, I like the Ft Myers area and spent a lot of time on Sanibel.
Ace Would you be willing to share the criteria that use on MSN Stock Screen and the Reuters Power Screen? Don
I had VPHM and CUTR on my dryup list today. I did not receive a buy signal this morning on either. CUTR exceeded FRV of 554095 today. I caught 2 points of the BTUI move though. Good call on that one Tradingbug. Gooch87
Don, Sure. I recalibrate the PowerScreener screen it every so often using Excel's PERCENTRANK function and data from the 1500 stocks in the S&P 400,500 & 600. Line 04 is the following: {EPS%ChgTTM}>=62.OR.{EPS3YCGr%}>=38.OR.{EPS5YCGr%}>=23 Lines 04, 05 and 06 are the lines that get recalibrated. Lines 04 and 05 serve the purpose of EPS Rank and Line 06 is for the RS ranking. I attached my screen for MSN's screener in the last journal and maybe even in this one. I don't have it handy, but you should be able to find it easily enough. Hope that's enough and a help to you. -ace
I just stayed in long enough for 2 percentage points. I sold too early as it turns out but 2 percentage points are better than -2points. Gooch87
