SPY Dividend

  1. Is the SPDRS ETF just a like a stock where if you short over ex-dividend date you have to pay the dividend?

Has anyone held the SPY short over the ex-dividend date?

  2. And exactly why would SPY be different from any other stock that pays a dividend?

  3. In other words you don't know the answer.

  4. No, it is just that the answer is so obvious one has to wonder why the question would even be asked, hence my question to you.

How about I ask another question. Where exactly is the money going to come from to pay the dividend to the owner of the SPY shares that you shorted?

  5. Typically, they pay it at end of quarter. In meantime, they accumulate dividends of components.

  6. Thanks. Do you know what happens in regards to the dividend with you go long the short ETF mirror image of the SPY?
