I did study on the OEX ( it applies also to the XEO) for the last 40 months history , from Sept 02 to 12/16/05.

One month = option expiration to option expiration

Here are some of my findings if you are interested:
The biggest monthly loss was -44.54 . It happened on 9/20/02 and the 2nd biggest monthly loss was -28.87. It happened this year on 10/21/05

The biggest monthly gain during that period was 30.19 on 11/18/05 the second biggest settlement was 28.49 on 12/19/03 .

The biggest intra-month low was 49.57 during the month of 2//03 and the second biggest intra-month low was 47.95 during the expiration month of 9/02.

The biggest intra-month high was during expiration months of 6/03 and 11/04 36.95 points and 36.87 points respectively.
The second biggest intra-month high was during expiration month of 11/05 total points of 30.71.
I thought it might give you guidance for your trades.

    Donna,

I saw on another board that you got into a 1325/1335 call spread. When did you open the position? I tried to get into the 1320/1330 a few times last week but couldn't get enough credit to make it worth my while.

That seems like quite a good credit. You must have hit it just right. Hopefully you'll post such excellent trades in the future so that we can take advantage of them :)

I for one feel much more comfortable managing my risk on bear calls because you can see the train coming. With bull puts, the black swan event is like having a trap door open up beneath you. So I'm always interested in seeing what bear calls others are putting on.

    Thanks.

  6. Support still holding as seen in the chart below. As long as that support continues to hold, still bullish going into January....

  7. By the beginning of next week, FEB spreads will begin to be in play (~ 45 or less to expiration...). Still looking only at puts and decent premiums in the 1150s which is quite deep OTM. We will see where we are next week although light volume this week menas we will be around where we are now I bet.

  10. I think a sharp 20 or 30 point drop in early Jan is quite possible......
