Spelling and Trading

Discussion in 'Psychology' started by Arthur Deco, Jan 22, 2009.

  1. You might bear in mind that many of the contributors to this forum are not native English speakers, and spelling is one of the notoriously daunting challenges to learners of this language. I'm happy that so many world citizens can meet together as fellow traders, finding common ground in what we do and learning from each other. I would suggest, in the spirit of learning, that we simply point out each other's spelling errors without mockery or intimidation. That having been said, aren't we here for the content, and ultimately, the cash? Ivory towers don't come with internet access for trading.

  2. All good points. Except I suspect that English is the ONLY language for most of the spelling and grammar perps here at ET. Have a look at the politics forum and see how many flag waving Republicans can't spell. I think that people whose native tongue is not English should be given a wide berth. The rest should be kicked in the ass and reminded to respect what is probably the only language they know.

    Case in point:

  4. Perhaps I was a bit too general in my characterization. I believe in respectful political differences. I referred to the extreme right à la Limbaugh et al. Please tell me you're not one of them. I will say, however, that as a group Republicans seem to be moving further and further to the right. Troubling, but not a point of discussion for this thread.

P.S. I suggest you tread carefully. Empirical evidence suggests that the further right-of-center that you travel, the more likely it is that your grammar and spelling will suffer. :D

  5. Oh, Vel! I am so sorry to disappoint! After all these years, too! Did you not know that I am a naturalized Texan? A gun nut (at last count twelve, but I may have misplaced some in backs of drawers, never want to be further away than ten feet from one). Always voted straight Republican. A gold bug. Hate queers. Think a woman's place is in the home. Believe in theories of racial intelligence. Think it is time to take America back from immigrunts, the lazy, the international conspiracy. Had I been of age during the Third Reich I would have been in the Hitler youth. In short, trailer trash. Can we still be friends?

  8. Please don't confuse the far Right with fiscal conservatism.

True, I suppose fiscal conservatism is in the eye of the beholder. But fiscal conservatism is inherent to the far right. Fiscal conservatism is dead.

Glad to hear you have found a home among the like minded here in my native Texas. Welcome. Maybe we could meet some time for a six pack and a game of horseshoes. I'll bring my sister...soon as she gets her new teeth.
