Pension plus social security will provide a decent retirement but not if your house isn’t paid off and you’re carrying debt. He obviously doesn’t have a retirement plan. And that home equity loan can be a real drag depending on interest rates. That why it’s best to have a retirement account or whole life policy to borrow from - way more favorable.
