House Republicans say that Jordan will lose as many as 15 more votes if he takes this to a third round. Jordan detractors believe it gets 'a lot worse' for him on a third speakership ballot "A round three is probably going to be the final straw," said Rep. Steve Womack, who has opposed Jordan through two ballots. https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2023/10/18/congress/jordans-third-ballot-troubles-00122278
So right now it looks to me like the only option is to expand the Speaker pro-tem's powers, but that takes 217 votes too. Would McHenry pass or would the handful of Reps that hate everything vote him down? Is there any chance they could do a first time ever thing, and bring in someone not in the House they could all agree on? No one comes to mind... How about Pence? (he's gonna drop out of the race soon I think). Or Pompeo? Maybe we'll see a first.
They should elect a democrat. The MAGA crowd will really stick it to the rest of the Rino's by doing that!
Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), who voted for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for speaker yesterday, then against him today, said in a statement that she has received “credible death threats.”
