From the links you posted, "Total, the operator of the licence, now plans to acquire 3D seismic data before drilling as many as four more exploration wells there. But it cautions that the operating environment offshore is tough.

“The region is quite difficult to operate,” Total CEO Patrick Pouyanne said on a conference call. “Huge waves, the weather isn’t very easy."

How can you claim a discovery was "confirmed" when they haven't even finished seismic data collection let alone drilled a single exploration well? I'm guessing you don't know a lot about the oil and gas business? BTW, even if this turns out as they hope is predominantly a gas find, not an oil find. A bit of a difference there, again for those of us with more than a passing familiarity with the field.

This is a long long long way from putting any money into the SA economy, not to mention the fact that oil money turns into a curse as often as not with these type of finds (how's Nigeria and Venezuela's currency doing again?). Just trying to inject some realism into some over-hyped hyperbole being spouted here.

  2. The gas-to-liquids REFINERY at Mossel Bay went into production in 1989 using natural gas from offshore fields about 89 km from Mossel Bay.
    --------------------
The First BIG CHANGE is that the NEW FIND is 175 Kilometers off the southern coast of South Africa ? ( About 86 Kilometers difference ? )
    ------------------------
The Second BIG CHANGE is that the NEW FIND may be able to increase the volume of natural gas to the existing REFINERY by a much LARGER amount etc...??
    -----------------------
The Third BIG CHANGE is the NATURAL GAS may ALSO be used to generate electricity using a SPINNING TURBINE that drives a generator to CONVERT the ENERGY into ELECTRICITY ? Keep in mind, Gas Turbine power plants are smaller than coal plants ? They can be built FASTER and at a LOWER COST ?
    --------------------------
Also keep in mind that the REFINERY at Mossel Bay has since 1989 used a process that converts natural gas or other gaseous hydrocarbons into longer-chain hydrocarbons such as GASOLINE or DIESEL FUEL.
    -----------------------------
The synthesis gas or (syngas) is chemically reacted over an iron or cobalt catalyst to produce liquid hydrocarbons and other byproducts. Result = GASOLINE and DIESEL FUEL etc...?

Newsflash folks, you heard it here first. Who knew, you could use NATURAL GAS in a SPINNING TURBINE to CONVERT ENERGY into ELECTRICITY!

Is this guy for real, or is it a SA thing?

  6. The South African Oil & Gas Alliance (Saoga) believes there are catalytic opportunities for developing the gas industry in South Africa ?
    ------------------------------
One of the aspirations is that South Africa becomes the oil and gas hub for East and West Africa ?
    --------------------------
The two major opportunities will be the massive gas finds in Neighbouring Mozambique and the potential of gas exploration in South Africa ?
    ---------------------------
South Africa's Neighbour, Mozambique has discovered 200-trillion cubic feet of gas ?
