I looked at the 16th I have a problem... the bars are so thin on my platform that I have difficulty actually seeing them. I asked and they say I can't thicken them. Tried different backgrounds for contrast etc, and not helpful. Yet I see candles are not giving the same insights. To compensate I'm trying candles with the same color for up and down? A line chart I can see, but that seemed to big a jump. But maybe I could adapt.
If all you have is price, you don't need an elaborate platform. Even the cheapest will provide OHLC bars, e.g., Sierra. You can even use free charts, such as those at investing.com. You can't trade what you can't see.
I adjusted the contrast on my monitor... with a black background and white bars worth a try. the person I talked to at TOS didn't know of any choice for wider bars. I could ask again. edit: I have a chat request in, see what they say.
No, TOS has no choice to thicken the bars or the line in a line chart. They say they will ask the developers to consider adding it. I think I can make it work with more monitor contrast. I was making the candles essentially the same color and bunching them up so in effect they were making a line. It's still to much information that is not needed. This is not the hugest issue, it should be working now, or will do a different platform, whatever it takes.
I don't want to get into a big todo about charting platforms since that is not the subject of this thread. But I see no reason to pay big bucks for charts that are loaded with features you'll never use. This is what you want: http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=$NDX&p=D&yr=0&mn=6&dy=0&id=p51491666964 If whatever program one is using can't provide this, you're wasting your money.
I get a discount at TOS, but certainly a simpler platform that is not windows based has advantages. will look at that. Is it practical to look at that chart but place the order on TOS? Can you place an order on stockcharts?
r3algood, Here are some basic PA annotations for the NQ Open today. Hopefully this example will help you to continue learning the essence of what we're discussing here. Take care, Heroic --- Comments are welcome by anyone else who is watching the action today.
Hooti, My humble advise is that before worrying about commission discounts and platforms learn to trade properly, as DB said it can be done with investing.com. Or just download the free trial of ninja and use the market replay function. When you have a TESTED trading plan, you can start worrying about commissions.
