The alternative is to complain to Baron. If he gets enough posters bitching he might re install the block feature.

Or possible get rid of the trolls.

I'm frequently seeing posts recently where someone says they've been blocked, which makes me think placing someone on ignore also blocks them, but I dunno for sure what's going on.

Getting rid of the block feature has been one of the greatest improvements to the site.

If people are here to put content out on the internet, then they should be fine with everyone being able to see it while logged in and then choose to respond or not. If the person that posts their content doesn't wish to respond to you, that is their prerogative, but denying someone the ability to look at that content is destructive to the chain of discussion.

The problem is, if some poster is, or become an obnoxious nuisanse, blocking them sends a message.
Certain posters are a pest on ET, they post non stop and post lies and rubbish.
Others are a pest by stalking and harrasing with put down comments.
It's good to have a deterrant in these instances.

Another thing imo, there should be a limit placed on how frequently members can post.
Some guys just litter the board with their crap, non stop, day and night.
Even when they're blocked or ignored, ET still sends a reminder the threads you are following have been updated (by the pest). It gets to be a problem when a thread you wish to follow is constantly being updated by an idiot.

It's not a deterrent. The pest logs out to read what you say and then answers, sometimes crypically, but has you blocked. The best thing is to just ignore people manually. It keeps the flow going well.

If Poster A has Poster B blocked, how does that affect Poster C?

There are definite benefits in the block.
Trolls can troll, there is no need to feel obligated to reply when the fuckers are blocked.
