My avatar picture is actually a mini tank that my child made out of wood in support of Ukraine. If you look closely it's got Ukraine flags on it.
It's a good question, but naw, I don’t really tell stories on clients. Just suffice it to say that there are a lot of people out there who think statistics is primarily a question of finding the “right” formula and plunking numbers into it. In reality, (part of) the value of hiring a professional statistician is that he or she has a sense how likely any given approach is to solve your problem, knows the pros and cons of different models/techniques, knows the embedded assumptions and whether or not they hold or are likely to hold, can explain when and why a model might not work in a given application (the math always "works" but the model might be useless), can suggest ways of collecting data that are financially much more efficient to solve the problem at hand, etc. That’s just off the top of my head. Lots of people think that just because they are smart and the “formulas” are available that they can solve the problem – and that *might* be true – but even then they run the risk of solving it in a (financially) inefficient way, ignoring that there are some critical assumptions (that they haven’t checked) that could invalidate the analysis or, worse, seemingly validate the wrong conclusion, or only uncover part of the "story” their data are trying to communicate.... or just plain get it wrong! Moreover, even among statisticians, it’s best to get one who specializes in whatever area you’re working in. Often a small-sized company relies too heavily on the guy or gal who “did statistics” on some other project in some other sector and is trying too hard to fit sub-optimal techniques to the task at hand. I could go on and on… but I should get back to my own stats! Lol
Naa, war is a racket imho. "War is mass murder wrapped in a pretty flag." Mike Rivero. That looks like a box in the back of that corrugated construction there. There's hope for your kid. Tip o'the hat goes out to your child. Wanna have some fun? Get a packing tape dispensor and bring home 25 boxes for your child and see what happens... Good times!
...and I thought havin a few homebrews with a statistician would be boring... Do it on company time if at all possible, them beers gonna cost ya about $1K plus transportation and lodging.
Three statisticians went out hunting, and came across a large deer. The first statistician fired, but missed, by a meter to the left. The second statistician fired, but also missed, by a meter to the right. The third statistician didn't fire, but shouted in triumph, "On the average we got it!" Just found on the net
LOL. Third stat'n was a consultant in from outta town? Why get all messy dressing out a deer if you havin Ruth's Chriss Porterhouse anyway, expenses paid.
Putting me on Ignore list just means you won't see my posts which is fine. But I didn't put you on my Ignore list so I can see yours. As much as how misinformed and biased your posts are, they are amazing to see how out-of-touch-of-reality and skewed somebody can be when they have been subject to intense brainwashing while being deprived of free flow of information and the intense reaction that they exhibit when they are exposed to reality. It's like de-programming somebody who's been in a cult. I have only read about this phenomenon in articles and I have watched it in documentaries and movies but I have never observed it irl. But on ET here, I am able to see it irl with posters like you. I post in your thread because I know that you read my posts, as much as you say you don't want to and put me on "Ignore", you read my posts, all of them. People who put another on "Ignore" are always curious about what that person actually would say, now behind their back since they don't see the other person's posts anymore, especially when they know what the other person says is not without merit. Your response post here specifically even mentioning my name proves exactly my point. If you have really put me on "Ignore" and are really not interested in what I say, how could you have read my post, why did you read my post and why did you respond? You love me, @earth_imperator, deep down, you know it. LOL
