  5. Totally agreed.

Jerry Yang (former CEO) had a chance to sell Yahoo to Mr. Softie for 31/share back in 2008, representing an approximate FIFTY SIX PERCENT premium from then current stock price of around 20/share, yet he and the board rejected the offer. Steve Ballmer even raised it to 33, but Yang and the board wanted 37. Softie backed off and the deal was dead.

In publicly available comments, the reason for the reject was quoted as follows:

"[The offer] "substantially undervalues" the company's brand and worldwide assets."

Now the stock languishes in the 14 to 16 range. FIVE different CEO's later, they get someone from Google, pay her 1 million in salary, up to 400% in bonus, and 12 mil in stock options.

Indeed, all is well for Yahoo, but NOT for the shareholders.

    Like you said, "total disgrace."

  6. She's a multi millionaire, do you think she is going to be taking care of her kid? Just like the rest of the ultra rich, whether conservative or liberal they hire a bunch of foreigners to raise the kids and pretend like they are doting parents.
Cripes my wife was 9 months pregnant when she took her boards and then went right to work. I worked at opposite times and we raised our kids with some help from my parents when we could get them to babysit.
Hell, I still haven't caught up on my sleep from those days. Now instead of having to get up for a diaper change I have to get up extra early to get breakfast for them so they can get to their f^&*ing football and soccer workouts by 0630 and then pick them up at prime trading time around 0930. I hate summers, school shoould be year round with no breaks!
I'm not complaining, just don't want to hear or read about how this tool can't do her job because she is having a kid. She'll be off for a week at most, and then the foreign help will take over.

  7. Actually the really rich in NYC frequently hire through one of a few agencies in Minnesota and South Dakota. They like clean cut, mid western, early twenties, no ink, no piercings and no bad habits. Drug tested etc. A girl I went out with had her own very small apartment in a Central Park West building while the family she worked for had 14 rooms 10 floors above.

When they were going on a vacation she told me they were not sure if they were going to the Mediterranean or the Caribbean. When I said don't the have 110 foot yacht in the Med she said they also had one of the same size in the Caribbean. Both carried a crew year round.

These people ain't letting any brown people from the third world watch their kids. It is the upper middle class that have the foreign nannies that they hire cheap and pay no taxes on. This girl had her own tiny apartment, was paid on the books, had basic health insurance and was paid enough that she could save a bit.

Too early to judge Mayer, indeed.

But judging from the past performance of Yahoo's board, I wouldn't be optimistic.

First, the board obviously don't know what to do or where to go, let alone choosing the right person to lead.

Second, I bet the board must have the mentality of "because she was there when Google took flight she must be good". They may be right but at the same time it is an indicator that the board has just throw their hands up in air: "that's it, we don't know what the fuck to do with Yahoo so let's just take a bet"

Third, Mayer won't be able to replicate Google's success. Yet, IMO, to turn around Yahoo, one needs no less than Google's trajectory.

IMO, Yahoo is like Blackberry: they had the capability but totally missed the window of opportunity --> Too late to save.

I recall that clearly, it was astonishing. Yahoo had fallen behind Google with regard to simple functionality/security of the products. It seemed clear to me that they were never going to regain their former glory.
