The snipers were on the back of the USS Bainbridge. The Bainbridge was towing the liftraft to calmer waters with about 25 ft of rope.

Once the captures heads were in sight they fired at close range.

  2. The next move(s) are extremely important. The pirates are certainly going to step it up a notch and we need to show them what killing is all about.

MOGADISHU, April 13 (Reuters) - Somali insurgents fired mortars towards U.S. congressman Donald Payne as he left the Somali capital on a rare visit by a U.S. politician to the anarchic Horn of Africa nation, police said.
"One mortar landed at the airport when Payne's plane was due to fly and five others after he left and no one was hurt," Abukar Hassan, a police officer at Mogadishu airport, told Reuters. (Reporting by Ibrahim Mohamed; Writing by Jack Kimball; Editing by Andrew Cawthorne)

  6. I'm not sure what it is that you don't understand about our current military being spread so incredibly thin . . . over 2 wars.

Do you even realize that our Navy is down to only about 280 ships and the amount of sea where the pirates are hijacking vessels is 1.1 million square miles???

My guess is that Obama and his Administration will propose a coalition effort by NATO to keep these shipping lanes in the Indian Ocean safe.

  8. Kind of difficult for the lifeboat and pirates to be allowed to "drift to shore" when conditions in the sea deteriorated this weekend and:

"the Navy talked the pirates into allowing the boat to be towed to calmer water and talked one of the pirates into coming on board the Bainbridge to negotiate.

The Navy apparently brought the boat to within 40 yards of its fantail.

In other words, the lifeboat was TETHERED to the USS Bainbridge and not drifting towards shore.
