When I first started trading equities, the process of culling, annotating and calculating Dry Up required four or five hours time commitment each evening. Using the automated culling feature significantly reduces the time requirement. In addition, if you ever think you'll have a desire to learn to apply the methodology onto the futures markets, then having the ability review the entire futures workspace via playback mode becomes an invaluable tool for learning. Comparing software and datafeeds presents another example the need to make sure one knows what one gets with their purchase. I recently dropped my Qcharts datafeed after comparing the TN Datafeed with that of Qcharts / Esignal. You can take a guess which datafeed proved superior. Oddly enough, had ESignal not 'messed' around with the Qcharts platform, or never attempted to 'nickel and dime' its client base with added fees, I'd have had no reason to search elsewhere for a package. Quotetracker is a good product, and the Medveds always provide excellent customer service. However, Quotetracker relies on a broker data feed, whereas, TN has its own feed. TN also prides itself on superior customer service. While I used Wealth-Lab devloper for many years, unless one trades actively through Fidelity, Wealth-Lab Developer (or Pro they may call it now) is not available to US Customers. As many have noted in the past, the Wealth-Lab Web Site often fails to update its data until the next morning. The bottom line is this, if you feel better data, automated annotations and automated culling provide a benefit for your trading, then this package will serve you well. If, however, you feel that you can 'get by for now' with a broker datafeed and quotetracker while manually culling the market, then stay with your current software. These tools were designed to assist someone learning to trade or actively trading. If you feel you can't (at your current level of knowledge) see much benefit, then wait to use them until you do. The tools aren't going anywhere, and they will always remain free of charge. TN 'Tradesense Language' isn't designed for people who are expert programmers. It's more like 'pseudo code' that people with few computer skills can use. I see no reason that someone with an ability watch a few training videos can't learn to 'code' thngs the way they want. A thimble holds more water than my brain holds knowledge of how to code, and I did OK. Perhaps some of the folks who have used the package for a while can speak to their experience 'coding' things. For rollover on Trade Navigator, must update the str/sqz spread manually. Go to trader's toolbox and select function. Edit as shown in posted file.
For those using Trade Navigator, I found (with the help of a TN tech) a couple of solutions to a memory problem that was slowing down my system. 1. Each stock listed on the Quote Board (") uses bandwidth to download information. I had all of the Equities listed in Dry Up on my Quote Board which was slowing down my feed. List only those you want to watch. 2. Saving intraday data for a long period or time uses excessive memory. Edit Chart Settings and check the Dates Axis settings. My settings for the "Max. days for intraday data:" were excessive. I reduced the times on my settings and my system responded much better. I changed the PV charts from 20 and 40 days to 5 days each, the STRSQZ from 10 to 3 days, and the Tic chart from 10 to 2 days. This limits the Replay History but my system runs much faster due to my changes.
My changes to intraday data noted above, caused my volume automated pace lines to disappear. The formula to determine pace lines is 22 days. I reset my ES and YM PV charts to 25 days of intraday data so the pace lines can be calculated and thus, appear again.
Running TN lite, won't let me update the function. Says I need to upgrade to Gold or Platinum. Checked with tech support and they said you have to have Gold or Platinum to edit functions.
<strike>Figured out how to change the STRSQZ settings without editing the function: Right click on the chart, click EDIT Chart Settings. Check pane 2 box, click to highlight the YM1 line,. This opens a Price Data box. Click Symbol to open the contracts window. Select the contract, click OK. Uncheck the Pane 2 box and click OK. See attached.</strike> EDIT: (09-23-08 04:14 PM) This method doesn't work. Sorry for any confusion that it caused. It seemed to change the YM1 contract but it didn't - just looked like it worked. As soon as the old contract expired STRSQZ quit working. Can't edit the function from the edit chart settings. Apparently it's the "STRSQZ Spread" function that needs to be edited from the toolbox - as Avi8 mentioned in his post. Aren't allowed to edit functions in TN Lite.
having troubles the last couple days with the DOM being off. The depth of market cells are not keeping up with price or don't exist. Mainly happening during fast market. Anyone else experiencing troubles?
