    TIKITRADER,

Which screen recording software did you use for your last video?

Also, for anyone that has experience with screen recorders:

Is there any advantage to using Camtasia ($399) vs. others that are around $29-$39 or even free?

Does your S.R. cause your CPU to run at close to 100% most of the time (as I've heard others say)?

For playback, all I really need at this time is a pause button and a slide bar for control. There's quite a few choices, so any opinions before I start my search would be great.

Stepan, I switched from QCharts to QuoteTracker in May 2007 and have been very pleased. It's free, but you will have to purchase the data. I get the streaming data from my broker MB Trading for free with my futures account and pay DTN IQ $20 per month for the backfill ES and YM data. I know others use IB for their QT data source at I believe about $30 per month. QT's charts are nice, the PRV and Tic charts are great. The Level II/DOM display is not the same as most who post on the Futures Journal and is conceptually a little harder to visualize.

    Good luck!

  3. I did use camtasia on that. I have tried out a few for free and I had a problem with them running the cpu at 100%. They were also freezing up esignal on me. You might be fine with them.
Camtasia has a little bit of a learning to do, but I really like it except for the price.

There is a little more on this in the beginning of this thread, if you did not catch it.
Try out a few and see what runs well for you computer. You might be able to get a free one, that runs fine.

I have posted here about the Windows Media Encoder/Windows Media Player combination I use because I prefer .wmv files. This file type gives me lots of control over playback speed which i think you will appreciate if you get into this.
I have also used Bulents and HyperCam which put out .avi files.
All of these are free. The last two "mark" the recording with their name but its not a problem.

I have a newer computer and haven't had a noticable problem running WME simultaneously with two instances of AmiBroker, IB TWS, and BrackerTrader.

The key to the cpu issue (and output file size) is to optimize the screen capture rate. I have success with as low as 3 frames per second vs the 15 fps that seems to be a common default. The screen area recorded also is a large factor here. You can also play with the codec types with a few of the recorders.

So try a few and see how they operate on your system. There is some learning curve required.

    Thanks TIKI & R/R.

I'll give Windows Media Encoder a try. The 3 fps idea is a good one. I suppose one only needs 15 fps, if they're recording something fast like video games.

  6. Ive just about had it with QT's PRV tool for the 2min YM, its absolutely horrible. I've counted 10, 2min bars today where is spit out the complete wrong volume.

The 5 min ES is fine which is dont understand.

Is anyone else experiencing issues with the 2min Ym PRV tool?

  7. Steve,

I can't help you on QT, but I'd like to mention I've been using Ensign for about 6 months now and love it. There is soooo much you can do with it. It's set up so that non-programmers can quasi-program.

Let me know if you try it out, and I can answer any questions and send you my complete workspace with all the fine tools set up.

  9. Ouch, I thought you were making $$$ :)

It's $39 a month. For someone who has spent thousands on professional tools, this seems like peanuts to me ( I mean in non-trading arenas).

  10. Well, my 5 min ES is doing fine and thats whats most important, I dont want to pay for something just for 2min YM PRV as this is really very secondary for me.

    Thanks for the info though
