Eric - did you try it during regular market hours? I know I get what you're describing when running in "playback" mode after regular market hours.
Hi Pr0crast, I notice you were using QT also; do you use ensign for something specific. just curious does QT lack those features to trade SCT. Also, I followed your documents/videos and like the charts in them. Could you please pm me your QT template for emini charting. appreciate it. thx.
I decide switch to new trading platform and need to choose one of the following: QT QCharts eSignal. I would like to know opinions, pluses, and minuses of above products related to JHM. And what the best data feed for them. Stepan
I am in the process of testing QT as a replacement for QCharts. QCharts has the best interface, imho, of any charting package. You can scroll, resize, put in trendlines etc with an ease that I just can't find elsewhere. Also, it has some unique-ish features like unusual volume, which i find very helpful. I just started with QT this week, and the biggest strength to me is it's price. I bought the upgrade, for a whopping $7 a month. Qcharts is running me $170 or something for all the data I'm pulling in. QT runs off of IB, so there are no additional data feeds. However, I find QT a bit clunky and hard to get around. The learning curve is steeper as well, and even just getting it set up to your datafeed can be a bit troublesome. Other then that, I haven't found any other drawbacks. IB's data is also faster that QCharts, which is nice. I have never used esignal, but I know someone who I tried to convince to use QCharts instead and he said the data was much, much slower in QCharts. Qcharts and QT both work for JH stuff, as far as I'm aware, but I'd say QCharts is better for the equities and QT for the futures. Hope that helped. TNG
I have used QCharts as well as QuoteTracker. Without a doubt, QCharts annotation is the best out there. However, I have used QT for the last few months and the PRV feature is an added bonus. However, QT has a huge problem with drawing trendlines, which have been articulated in earlier posts by me. I am trying out Amibroker since it works off IB data for a couple of day now. So far it is looking good. If Amibroker does not work out it will be back to QuoteTracker for me.
I have been using AmiBroker for a few years. For those who use it I'd like to point out the ability to hot-key all sorts of stuff which really helps me in annotating efficiently. With my left hand I press F2 to initiate a parallel pair of lines, F3 for single line, F4 to toggle between single and double line weight, F6 to set dashed lines, ~ to reset to from annotation to mouse pointer mode, F5 to start text, Ctrl+H for crosshair, etc. (Setup with menu-tools-customize-keyboard). Meanwhile I'm using my right hand on the mouse to do the lines. Also I grab the color pallet and drag and leave it permanently in a spot that doesn't obscure anything I care about so it is open and near the charts. I have setup custom colors that are best suited for my background. Best $229 real time software out there IMO. Regarding IB data as a feed. I have been using it for some time and it is fine for the "student mode". There have been two days in the last few weeks that ES quotes were screwed up which was a real drag. Of greater concern is the issue of synchronizing the computer clock with the IB feed because AmiBroker uses your clock to time stamp the data for the bars. Recently I heard that IB was timestamping their data but AmiBroker doesn't recognize or use this currently. However it is on their "Wish List". As a work-around I cause AmiBroker to refresh the IB data frequently by re-opening the database that is in use. This appears to overwrite the existing data with data having their time stamp. Alt-F-1 works for this (I think the default database is in the "1" spot. After qoutes are refreshed a Ctrl-S saves the data. Hope this helps.
Hi Stepan I just dumped Qcharts because of the data feed problems. I returned to Quotetracker and so far am very pleased. There are a lot of updates that come out for QT, that might get on your nerves, bout 1 a week, sometimes more sometimes less. I think there was one update the entire 1 + years that I used Qcharts. Perhaps there were more, but I can't remember and dint really care. I use MBtrading as my data feed and I am only using it for trading futures. QT has great customer service too. If you have an Ameritrade or MBtrading account, you get the software without ads, there might be more brokers, but not sure. Sometimes QT seems to slow down when I have a lot of annotation on the chart, but I think that's because I have a slow computer. 1.8GHz 2G RAM, AGP 4x dual DVI. Don't laugh too hard, I'm still able to learn on it and make a few good trades every once in awhile. Qcharts is great for culling the entire stock market for the best stocks and great for annotating your charts. It was easy to learn too. I found that Qcharts lagged the market when lots of volume was churning in futures, and often had to change servers to get up to date. Once I emailed Qcharts support, it took 1.5 days before they got back to me. I did the same with QT and Jerry got back to me in about 10 minutes. We worked on the phone until my problem was solved. I hope this helps, gooch87
Jason, Is you disable the user account controls in Vista that will probably fix your problems, and 99% of Vista related problems. Search on Ezzy and Vista to find my thread where I posted the steps. Hope that helps - EZ
You really need to try them out. Qcharts has a free 30 day trial, though you might have to pay for data, just a few bucks for the ES. I think QT has a free version as well. No PRV in QCharts, but easy to use. I've only had a couple days where the data feed was a problem with Qcharts. There is a guy that has a program for Qcharts that gives you more control over the servers they use. Eventually I want to give Tradestation a try too. I'm gonna wait until Esignal gets a few more bugs worked out and give them a look. - EZ
