I have an update on eSignal's range charts. Today I compared the eSignal range charts for ES (0.25R) and YM (1R) with the same charts on QuoteTracker (QT) during RTH. I discovered that there are a couple of differences in the way the 2 software programs plot the data even though I'm using eSignal data for both.

One of these differences renders the eSignal range chart useless, if I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing. It appears that the volume doesn't update continuously throughout the bar. From what I can tell, the reported volume is only the volume for the first transaction in the bar. Let's say a new bar opens and the first transaction is for 100 contracts at 1453.00. The price bar will plot 1453.00 and the volume bar will plot 100. Then if price goes up to 1453.25, the price bar plots a vertical line up to the new price but the volume bar does not change. Even if price bounces up and down several times between 1453.00 and 1453.25, the volume will never move above 100.

On QT, the volume bar updates continuously throughout the bar. So while it might start at 100 contracts, you will see it getting larger all the way up until the bar is finished and a new bar forms. So it is plotting the total volume for all the contracts traded during that bar rather than just plotting the volume for the first transaction of the bar. I will post a question in eSignal's help forum; maybe they can fix it while it's still in beta.

Can you guys post a pix of your S/S for comparison ?

I don't use QT anymore. I never had S/S on it.
This is how my current S/S looks like:

  5. Has anyone done any work with Quotetracker pressure bars on range (tick) charts?

They show the ratio of bid vs. ask demand at the tick level, so complete the supply-demand picture when viewed with the DOM.

There are seemingly non-random repeating patterns near the 2-pair / spike end-effects and I wondered if anyone had exploited this in a general way, without curve fitting the data.

Anyone who has already put some thought in on this is welcome to PM me. I know MAK has walked this path before...

MBT issues, they did not have my futures permissions set on quote server use by QuoteTracker.

Does anyone know how to get 5 levels of bid/asks for the level II depth of market tool on QCharts?? I am currently limited to being able to only see the BEST bid/ask price. Is it possible to get 5 levels?

If you use dual monitors, there are two main ways you can be set up. Either the monitors are independent, and you can set the resolutions different on each screen and change individual attributes, or you set it so both monitors act as one. In the latter, you have one loooong task bar that extends across both screens. In the former, you have a task bar that exists only on one screen and the other is empty. In the latter, when you "record screen" in camtasia it records both screens. In the former, it only picks one of the two screens.

As someone mentioned you can record both screens in either mode by using the record region method. However, to play back the video in full resolution you have to be using the non-independent monitor mode where they both act as one screen. Forgive me for not having the specific terminology for these modes handy...

Video files like this are already compressed by their very nature--further compressing it won't accomplish much. It is key though to MAKE SURE that the audio stream is compressed as well (in mp3 or similar), because sometimes the default gets set to wav or PCM, which actually take up more space than the video portion of the file.

Other observations: Resizing the height/width of camtasia videos that are already recorded in hopes of decreasing the file size often results in a larger file size for reasons I think I understand but don't know how to articulate. The best way to achieve a smaller file size is to lower the resolution of your monitor to something like 1024x768 or smaller before recording, but naturally you will have less real estate for multiple charts etc.

    Hi suriano3,

With eSignal you have to have a subscription to Level II data in order to see all 5 levels. I assume the same is true with QCharts.
