And in the end most democracies vote for a mix of capitalism and socialism. Maybe because some things are best left to individual and others the society (defense and infrastructure everywhere? and in those "socialist" countries things like healthcare, education, pensions). If going badly democracy can adjust it ideally without a swing too far left or right. Democracy relies on an educated electorate but sometimes you do wonder.....UK/US politics.

A benevolent dictatorship can work wonders with long term planning and leadership which is missing in the 'west' but unfortunately may not always be benevolent (power corrupts etc)

Xi has just been given the Presidency for life in China.
Perhaps he will go one step further if he has children and make a dynasty like N. Korea.
It is interesting to note that while the US is trying to draw back from over ambitious commitments made previously, China is keen to take on this world role but I expect with stringent conditions attached.

No just there is no such thing as being slightly pregnant. One is either for or against the freedom to choose. Socialism dictates choice.

What is that biblical phrase about it is easier for a camel to pass through an eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven. The US and it seems the world is stuck with its billionaires and they won't want to tax excessive wealth.
Well that is how it is and its unlikely to change any time soon..

We seem to be using a very different definition of 'socialism' so unable to have any more discussion.

Seems that way. US came with conditions as well though.... free markets with tilt towards US companies.

No we seem to be using a very different definition of freedom. Socialism <> freedom.

The U.S. even under the current nutjob is moving more and more away from freedom. Whether it is called socialism or cronyism whatever.

When in the US I never feel it is any way more free than europe. Certainly there is more litigation which tends to hinder simple things. By the democratic process europe votes to have more social policies than US. Just a feature of the democracy that you go with the majority. I guess there are many types of freedom: economic, political, sexual, religious etc. Corporations seem to be given more freedom in US over employees but in other areas seems more freedom elsewhere.
