"i guess better examples are needed."
I was not looking for the best example but for a most current example.

Like the rest of you, I have no fucking idea what Socialism actually is. It is, apparently, anything that the person using the word doesn't like, taking on the emotional color of words like "Nazi" and "Hitler" and all those other pejoratives so casually thrown about by political kooks in this country.

The Prime Minister of Australia,it turns out, is something called a democratic socialist. No damn idea what she believes, but I watched a video of her ripping the hide off the misogynistic leader of the opposition in the Aussie Parliament the other day and that showed me that there's at least one socialist I might actually like to meet (she's kind of cute, too).

So, perhaps someone here would like to DEFINE socialism? As far as I can tell, it has nothing whatsoever to do with lazy people being given undeserved candy. That's Halloween, not a political philosophy.

Why don't you do some research? Turn off Fox News and head to the library to find out what Socialism ACTUALLY IS. and then tell us (in a factual, honest way) what you have learned. So many reasonably happy and well-educated countries are prospering under socialist governments that I suspect there is a chance that socialism isn't the crazy philosophy you seem to believe it is. But I'm ready to hear it explained.

You point us to the Daily Mail? :D
My dear sir, anything Labour does will be reported there with the same dignity and accuracy as "Alien Abduction" or "My Husband Has Three Tits."

The NHS computer project is discussed more factually in a Wikipedia article. It is not an example of "socialism," but is, instead, a classic example of "bad management." Managers always think putting a big computer system in place is easy.

In one of my incarnations, I do programming. This kind of crashing failure of a big DP project is actually quite common. As an investor, in fact, any time you read that your favorite company is about to redesign their data processing system, I suggest you SELL and go SHORT. You've got at least a 70% chance that the company will be floundering for the next two years.

You didn't need four paragraphs to flaunt your ignorance. Go research it yourself. And no nation will "proper" in the long-term. It's the nature of the system to go Greece or California eventually.

Yes I do. I have a lot of it. I don't do the research myself because we are in perfect agreement. Neither of us actually gives a damn what Socialism is. We just like to complain.

    definition in short:

"From everyone according to their ability and for everyone according to their needs"

I do not need to go to library. I lived in former eastern block.

I have learned that it does not work.

It's not hard to find cases of Government Expenditures that didn't quite materialize as expected. I'm not sure any of them qualify as a failure of "socialism in action." One with the FBI...
