  2. 13 % of the budget for welfare, foodstamps, unemployment. The social safety-net. How much goes to cheats? 7%?. So maybe 1% of the budget is wasted on social services cheats. Is it too much? Yes.

Now, how much of the military budget is wasted?

And I still want to know who this vast parasite class is.

  3. Source other than your rectum?

I'll make it real simple for you moron. Our national debt is $16 trillion and that's chump change compared to our unfunded liabilities. We can't afford over $1 trillion/year on welfare.

  4. Safety net programs: About 13 percent of the federal budget in 2011, or $466 billion, went to support programs that provide aid (other than health insurance or Social Security benefits) to individuals and families facing hardship. Spending on safety net programs declined in both nominal and real terms between 2010 and 2011 as the economy continued to improve and initiatives funded by the 2009 Recovery Act began to expire.

These programs include: the refundable portion of the earned-income and child tax credits, which assist low- and moderate-income working families through the tax code; programs that provide cash payments to eligible individuals or households, including Supplemental Security Income for the elderly or disabled poor and unemployment insurance; various forms of in-kind assistance for low-income families and individuals, including food stamps, school meals, low-income housing assistance, child-care assistance, and assistance in meeting home energy bills; and various other programs such as those that aid abused and neglected children.

Such programs keep millions of people out of poverty each year. A Center analysis shows that government safety net programs kept some 25 million people out of poverty in 2010. Without any government income assistance, either from safety net programs or other income supports like Social Security, the poverty rate would have been nearly double in 2010 (28.6 rather than 15.5 percent).

  6. Shit-for-brains, what part of this don't you understand? We simply can't afford it. Clean toilets if you have to... but it's up to you to make your own way.

Federal welfare spending has grown by 32 percent over the past four years, fattened by President Obama’s stimulus spending and swelled by a growing number of Americans whose recession-depleted incomes now qualify them for public assistance, according to numbers released Thursday.

Federal spending on more than 80 low-income assistance programs reached $746 billion in 2011, and state spending on those programs brought the total to $1.03 trillion, according to figures from the Congressional Research Service and the Senate Budget Committee.

That makes welfare the single biggest chunk of federal spending — topping Social Security and basic defense spending.[/b]

  8. Mitt Romney’s making an interesting play in the firewall contest in Michigan, finessing his stand that the car companies would have been better off without President Barack Obama’s bailout to keep them afloat. He’s also made much of the dangers of government “picking winners and losers” when they give subsidies to companies. But the private equity firm he founded and ran took full advantage of such government goodies.

Last month the LA Times ran a good piece on the subsidies Bain Capital received from the state of Indiana and DeKalb County to set up a steel mill there. Afterward, the anti-corporate welfare crowd at “Good Jobs First” compiled a list of other Bain companies that sought or received subsidies.

Among the recipients of government largesse under Romney at Bain:

Steel Dynamics (the focus of the LA Times piece)–received $77 million

    GS Industries–sought $20 million

    Sealy–received $600,000

    Steam International: received $4.5 million

Alliance Laundry Systems: received $1.81 million

Burger King Corp.–sought $9 million, receieved $3 million.

The LA Times quoted the freemarketerers at Cato criticizing the DeKalb county subsidy:

“This is corporate welfare,” said Tad DeHaven, a budget analyst with the Washington-based Cato Institute, which encourages free-market economic policies. DeHaven, who is familiar with corporate tax subsidies in Indiana and other states, called the incentives Steel Dynamics received “an example of the government stepping into the marketplace, picking winners and losers, providing profits to business owners and leaving taxpayers stuck with the bill.”

    Concludes the left-leaning Clawback.org:

It’s quite possible that Romney’s recent anti-government comments, like much of what he says, are not meant to be taken too seriously. But as long as he is spouting free-market rhetoric, he needs to be reminded about the extent to which his ascent (and that of the rest of the 1% ) has been propelled by public money.

Romney further embraced so-called corporate welfare as the governor of Massachusetts, and it’s worth noting that nearly all governors engage in this race-to-the-bottom game of chasing companies with subsidies now.

  9. Especially for you trendlover:

    Obamabot

One who supports Barack Obama and yet knows
very little or nothing about Obama the man and politician; his history, accomplishments and challenges beyond repeating Obama Camp talking points and/or slogans.

An Obamabot typically can't define, explain or defend Obama's policies. If an Obamabot is pursued or confronted about his or her seeming blind loyalty and lack of knowledge, he or she will typically launch a 'counter attack' (to a perceived attack) and accuse those who differ as racist, ignorant, hateful, etc. and/or will become resentful, indignant,
insulting, and even threatening (in cases which are most extreme).
