These things are really hard to predict and the future NEVER turns out as expected. I would say if Israel strikes Iran, that scenario would have definite potential to escalate into something beyond just Israel/Iran. It seems to me to have a true world war, you would need to involve two or more from the US, China and Russia. I'm not sure the time or place for China/Russia to get involved in a conflict with the US would be over Iran. Another option would be some sort of war over Taiwan's political status. I'm just not sure I see that China or Russia is in any sort of place financially or militarily to step into something with the US at this point. Maybe 10-20 years from now that will be a different story. I agree, that it will happen. History has proven it to be very unlikely that the world can somehow get a long without any major blowups between super powers.
