If true, that may be a reason not to vote Democratic, but why should they vote Republican? What have Republicans proposed that would make things better for the poor?

Good question. I will admit that there is nothing in either party's national platform currently that will help the poor. Both parties are simply beholden to their wealthy donors when proposing policy.

But while "both parties are simply beholden", it is not reps proposing to tax the wealthy and cut taxes on the middle class.

OTOH, it is Reps who are doing everything they can to keep the poor from voting.

That is a matter of perspective. From my perspective, the Republicans are trying via voter id laws to stop election fraud.

You realize that Obama's state of the union tax increase on the rich is just political posturing that has no chance of passing Congress even if the Democrats held a majority.

Maybe so, but if reps are not even proposing such a thing then there is even less chance, "less than zero" to borrow a dumb line from elsewhere here today, that it could come to pass.

Because there's so much voter fraud among the poor, it only appears to be a deliberate suppression of the poor vote. Now the rich, they have nothing to gain or even protect by gaming the voting system.
