the first thing is to eliminate income tax...
and allow people to go to work and still keep their benefits in a transitioned phase out as they get more successful.

work fare... not welfare for able bodied people.

those able bodied people who work must be better off then those who don't.
then you will see people going to work and getting skills.

of course it would help if we don't import 5 000000 foreigners to do the jobs right now.

When exactly did I become a liberal? Second of all, people of all economic backgrounds vote for candidates that best represent their interests. Third, the government can make you or break you whether you think so or not.

Its an absolutely valid point that these blacks have been voting overwhelmingly for dems candidates at all levels of office. The dems have promised them the world, and delivered very little.

Given the conservative cuts in "Great Society" programs beginning with Nixon, why is it a surprise that these programs did not deliver what was expected? And why is it a surprise that minorities have no interest in voting for Republicans, given that they have no reason to expect any help whatsoever?

Like they get lots of help from Democrats. How have African Americans fared under the first African American President?

You fail to remember that the largest cuts to "Great Society" programs occurred under President Clinton (workfare, reduced benefits, eligibility limit drops, etc.). The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act promised to “end welfare as we know it.” It included major cuts in the food stamps program and denied benefits to undocumented immigrants. The bill set work requirements for most welfare recipients and limited the length of time that they could receive assistance, making it a substantial change to the welfare system. Clinton placed considerable emphasis on personal “responsibility” and in particular, the idea that welfare mothers needed to learn “responsibility.”

Let's look at some of Clinton's statements:

In May 1991, Clinton said “opportunity for all is not enough… For if we give opportunity without insisting on responsibility, much of the money can be wasted and the country’s strength can still be sapped. So we favor responsibility for all. That’s the idea behind national service. It’s the idea behind welfare reform.”

In June of 1996, Clinton said “First and foremost, community programs must stress abstinence and personal responsibility. A program cannot be successful unless it gives our children the moral leadership they need to say no to the wrong choices and yes to the right ones.”

In the Summer of 1996, Clinton said “A long time ago… I concluded that the current welfare system undermines the basic values of work, responsibility and family, trapping generation after generation in dependency and hurting the very people it was designed to help.”

Liberals fail to recognize this while prattling on about the evil conservatives. So much for America's first "black" president - as they called him.

The Great Society was a set of domestic programs in the United States launched by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964-65. The main goal was the elimination of poverty and racial injustice. President Johnson first used the term "Great Society" during a speech at Ohio University, then unveiled the program in greater detail at an appearance atUniversity of Michigan. New major spending programs that addressed education, medical care, urban problems, and transportation were launched during this period. The program and its initiatives were subsequently promoted by him and fellow Democrats in Congress in the 1960s and years following. The Great Society in scope and sweep resembled the New Deal domestic agenda of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Some Great Society proposals were stalled initiatives from John F. Kennedy's New Frontier. Johnson's success depended on his skills of persuasion, coupled with the Democratic landslide in the 1964 election that brought in many new liberals to Congress, making the House of Representatives in 1965 the most liberal House since 1938.[1]

Anti-war Democrats complained that spending on the Vietnam War choked off the Great Society. While some of the programs have been eliminated or had their funding reduced, many of them, including Medicare, Medicaid, the Older Americans Act and federal education funding, continue to the present. The Great Society's programs expanded under the administrations of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.[2]

Liberals once again trying to re-write history - something DB tries to do all the time.

The president that cut the "Great Society" benefit programs the most is President Clinton.

Given that the Office of Economic Opportunity was dismantled by the Nixon and Ford administrations, you may want to look into this further, as well as the cuts made under Reagan.

So Clinton initiated and passed his own legislation? Quite a feat.
