Well if you repeatedly vote for the same party, and that party does nothing for you because they take you for granted, then yes, it is partly your fault.

how bout 40 acres and a mule?

I hear ya on the welfare, I saw a whole generation get wiped out because it was more profitable to marry the government than that crowd I hung out with.

My only point is, it is a racial problem and should be addressed that way, but nobody wants to admit it.

I don't really think we need the government to solve this problem, or any other little problem you have

whenever there is a problem, any problem, the first thing you liberals do is blame the government and then ask them to pass a law

you can't imagine a world where ordinary people and their neighbors solve a problem without any government intervention

Like the Dust Bowl. Or the Great Depression. Or, if one wants to be current, homelessness. Hunger. Lack of basic healthcare.

Then of course there were/are polluted air, land, water, oil spills, toxic waste, diseased food. All things which ordinary people and their neighbors have been able to take care of all by themselves.

    Jeez.

I don't think "people and their neighbors" would have solved the problem of slavery, though.

I agree, what we need is a "War on Poverty"! What does the government have to do with oil spills? They can't prevent it and they can't fix it. If you own an oil company, it is not profitable to spill it, and you probably care a hell of a lot more about spills than some government worker does. They get paid the same whether oil spills or not.

How did my grandparents ever get basic healthcare and raise 9 children without the government?

If I was homeless, I would go to the Catholic Church before I ever went to the government. After all, I don't want to stay homeless, and that's all the government can insure me.

they probably could have solved it without a Civil War.

You really believe that? All the "black" man had to do was speak up?

And oil companies will clean up spills all by themselves.

Loyek is a good example of why it's next to impossible to take "libertarians" seriously.

the argument is about the role of government. You want them to do more, I want them to do less.

For gosh sakes, we are the United States of America, the greatest country on earth. There is no reason we can't create a good government. We succeed at every thing else we put our mind to.

I am not anti government, I am pro good government. And the kind of government you want to create is a nightmare that has failed every where it has been tried and only made matters worse. Every liberal idea just creates a new richer and more powerful government employee. In the end, the only way to get ahead is work for the government, because they control everything. And if you want to be independently wealthy, you better have good friends in the government. Nobody can do anything without government approval. And this is the body you want to give even more of your dwindling power to.
